This morning, snowplows are working Hwy 3, Hwy 36 and Hwy 299. According to the Caltrans’ Quickmap, chains are required on Hwy 36 from three miles east of Mad River to five miles west of Forest Glen. “Chains or traction devices are required on all vehicles except four wheel/ all wheel drive vehicles with snow-tread tires on all four wheels,” Quickmap says.

Snowplows are also patrolling Hwy 3 and parts of 299 east of Weaverville in and the Oregon Mountain area.

UPDATE 12:08 p.m.: There are no more chains required on 36 at this time.

Thank you Bozo. Your website info is very helpful. Much better than many of the questionable comments (using very questionable language) posted here.

For anyone using a smart device I highly recommend the Caltrans Quickmap. Up to the minute road conditions(road work, chain controls, etc.), traffic cams and chp scanner information all stuffed into a map.
