BioChar Workshop in Piercy December 7th

This is a press release from the Institute of Sustainable Forestry:

Please join the Institute for Sustainable Forestry for a Biochar Intensive Workshop Dec 7, 2018 with nationally respected biochar expert Kelpie Wilson of Wilson Biochar Associates. Her presentations have been titled:  Biochar in the Woods: Ecology, Technology and Logistics.
Description:
Fire-adapted forests need fire to function properly and they need charcoal for nutrient cycling in soils. Commercial forestry has depleted forest soils and compromised forest health. As forest managers work to re-create healthy forests, biochar may become an important tool, both for forest health and as an alternative to incineration of forest fuels for fire protection. We need new tools and approaches to change our practices and turn fire from a threat of destruction to a promise of renewal. Kelpie Wilson will share a set of low-tech flame carbonization technologies that she and others have developed that can be deployed at remote forest sites to convert hazardous fuels to biochar. She will explain the combustion principles used by these technologies and outline the site logistics, support equipment and labor requirements for deploying these systems.
