In Mendo or Sonoma the Police would have reported only $3,000 dollars and pocketed the rest for family snowboard trips, new quads, new guns, nee trucks, school clothes for the kids and trips to Mexico….. Mendo deputies love trips to Mexico and Baja. Then the pounds turned into evidence would have been in the 25 pound range…. Wonder where the other 475 pounds would have gone, does anybody know?

Gee, that’s just silly! There is no reason to bash law enforcement, or to paint all sworn officers with the same brush and color!

How do you know that there was not 1000 pounds and 3 million dollars actually present here?

Judging from the assortment of weaponry and the photos of the jolly character arrested here, I would say that the Sheriff has done the world a favor.

Hating cops does not improve anything. Demand a higher standard, and use the chain of command, if you have anything constructive to add, [edit]

Once upon a time a good friend was popped with 200 lbs in a midwestern state not known for their sense of humor. When he was dragged in front of a judge the next morning he was charged with possession of: ….wait for it……. 2 lbs of marijuana. Needless to say he was all good with that. The other 198 lbs must have dissolved or something.

You don’t have to hate cops to realize that many are crooks and a supermajority of the good ones will lie to protect the ones that are crooks.

If it violates California law and not the 2nd Amendment regarding firearms, it is a crime, even Anotnin Scalia would agree.

RHBB: Pro-weed, anti cop. Remember that, or you will get [edited]…

Amazing, Humboldt. An entire County full of little Cop-Hating Law-breakers, who can be depended upon to complain if either: someone else breaks the laws more flagrantly (i.e. a 16,000lb bust), is not an American and breaks laws more flagrantly, or, gets busted while breaking laws with little panache and style, like this well-armed but loco vaquero right here…

Go forth and prosper, all you Dogpatchian Backwoods Barefoot Bumpkins, keep on growing tons and tons of that stuff! Pretty soon, Humboldt strains, Sativas and Hybrids and Indicas, will be grown EVERYWHERE and your poor-quality and poisonous weed will be worth NOTHING.

Remember, breaking laws, and tolerating lawbreaking, ruins it for everyone. Hating the police adds nothing to the experience of living in Northern CA, and it will be YOU who whines for law-enforcement when somebody jacks your scene.

As for pot-growing bloggers who allegedly censor with sensitivity, I shake my head and wonder how a mom and retired educator justifies a stance advocating cop-bashing, immigrant-bashing, rampant lawbreaking, chaos and anarchy, and I am getting worried about the back, Kym, that you don’t appear to be watching… It’s not “Humboldt County – The Movie” any more, when folks are growing WAY more than they need to “get by”…

The drug crazed and plain-crazy crap that people scribe in the comments of your blog are worrisome, also, and, if the news wasn’t entertaining for a few seconds per day, I for one, would never click upon this site, and I currently would classify it as a bad habit, which approaches difficult to break…

“We are forces of chaos and anarchy,
Everything they say we are,
We are!
And we are very proud of ourselves…”

Paul Kantner/Grace Slick

The hippies were peaceful, beatiks were just dropouts who wanted to get high.

Folks in Humboldt, today, they just want to be rich, and tell everyone else to get lost.

Too bad it won’t turn out that way, and, it’s too bad that gangsters are turning the whole place into Sinaloa Del Norte, while you all shit on America and get AFU… You are destroying what you came to Humboldt to have, and you can’t even see what you are creating! You Humboldt Natives need to take a look around, have a look in the mirror…

Kym, you don’t even get high, but you seem pretty lost.

Wow seriously the one place that lets you freely voice your opinion and doesn’t get high and you complain and you take it out on her, wow no respect dude, shame, shame. There are a lot of us out here that appreciate and respect what Kym and her newspaper do and all the hard work that’s puts into it so that you have that option to voice your opinion, I look at it this way if you don’t like it why do you even come here, why do you even say anything? To me it sounds like you have some issues maybe you should burn a bowl sit back and chill, the only thing that I read that you stated that made any sense was the fact that people like this ruin it for other people, those of us that suffer from cancer suffer from other people ruining it some of us don’t look at it as the high benefit the money benefit but look at it as benefiting from pain and suffering and the healing powers of the medicinal benefits, I’m sorry you feel this way about it, my actual thought was wow 10 guns in my hometown, hope there weren’t any kids in that home, how sad is that? And thank you Kym for your hard work and dedication and giving us the benefit to voice our opinions keep up the good work and bless your heart (sweet words lol) Happy Holidays to you and yours.!!

Such BS. You can have domestic violence issues and have as many guns as you want, yet plant a cannabis plant and bam, they throw the book at you like you are a murderous drug fanatic. This is just more discrimination from the Nation that brought us Prohibition. Plenty redneck drunks with weapons and no worries, yet a cannabis grower is some how more dangerous….not at all, the laws are just setup to discriminate against people who enjoy or grow cannabis. Right ti keep and bare arms shall not be denied……. Apparently they donnot want cannabis users to have the right or ability to protect themselves from criminals. Trinity has a l9ng wait time for most rural calls, how do they expect people to protect their property and persons when the real criminals who rob steal and kill all have weapons? They don’t!

Hopefully that AR pistol is an 80% so they can shove the SBR charge up their ass too. Then all they have are the weed charges..

OTOH they should probably charge him with some kind of indecency for that pink shaggy bedspread, wtf.

Have you ever noted that when they bust pot, or anything else for that matter, if the person had a gun under their bed that had nothing to do with the pot they show the guns to media? This type of PROPAGANDA is called guilt by association. Why are the cops using PROPAGANDA?

At issue is whether it meets the legal definition of a “short barreled rifle” in California, since the pertinent question is whether the specific law was broken as charged or not. Basically it comes down to how the lower receiver was first sold or manufactured — if it began life as a “rifle” then he’s screwed. If he milled it himself from an 80% lower or acquired it as a “pistol” through some other means he’s fine, at least so far as PC33210 goes. Identical part either way.

To your point though, functionally a gun is a gun and yes they have been rifling pistol barrels for about 300 years now.

Perhaps many don’t know, but it is actually a felony to own any kind of firearm when in possession of marijuana, it’s federally illegal. Technically you’re not supposed to pass the background check if you have a 2:15. Not that I agree with the law but many people seem surprised when people are busted with pot and get additional firearm charges, for what would generally be legal firearms.
On top of that, any AR-15 style rifle with a detachable magazine and any other “evil features” that’s not registered as an assault weapon is now illegal in California, including home build 80% receivers. They have to be either completely featureless, which will allow you to have a detachable 10-round magazine, or it has to have a “fixed” that can only be removed when the receivers are separated 10-round magazine, or it must be registered as an assault weapon. Or apparently you can just store it unassembled, which Now does not qualify as a complete firearm lol. Any home built AR-15, whether compliant or not, needs to be registered with the DOJ and have a serial number inscribed by a professional licensed gunsmith/ seller.

The Tenth Amendment trumps the delusional idea that feds have Any say whatsoever in any of the states.

If you cannot see the irony in having a gun ban enforced by men with guns, then you fail to understand why the second Amendment was written in the first place.

Why is it that way? Why don’t the voters know that it’s an inalienable right to defend oneself?
Why don’t the voters know the reason why pot was scheduled?
Why don’t the voters know that only constitutional laws are supposed to be voted on?
Why don’t the voters know that unless a real crime (assaulting another’s liberties) has been committed, then there is no crime?
Were the weapons used in a crime?
Was the pot laced with harmful poisons?
Were the workers enslaved or any of their other rights abused? Were they held there by gunpoint?
Are there now over 30 people out of work and shelter?
Global famine has reached a 10 year high, and we’re here on a blog fighting over pot and the right to work for a living while maintaining an aura of self defense.

The relevant clause of the Constitution amended by the Second Amendment is Section 8, number 16:

(Congress shall have the power) “To provide for organizing, arming, and disciplining, the Militia, and for governing such Part of them as may be employed in the Service of the United States, reserving to the States respectively, the Appointment of the Officers, and the Authority of training the Militia according to the discipline prescribed by Congress;”

Of course, the Second Amendment reads: “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”

In modern day terms, that means there should be no laws keeping us from having a National Guard.

“A free people ought not only to be armed, but disciplined…”
– George Washington, First Annual Address, to both House of Congress, January 8, 1790

“No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms.”
– Thomas Jefferson, Virginia Constitution, Draft 1, 1776

“I prefer dangerous freedom over peaceful slavery.”
– Thomas Jefferson, letter to James Madison, January 30, 1787

“What country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance. Let them take arms.”
– Thomas Jefferson, letter to James Madison, December 20, 1787

“The laws that forbid the carrying of arms are laws of such a nature. They disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes…. Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.”
– Thomas Jefferson, Commonplace Book (quoting 18th century criminologist Cesare Beccaria), 1774-1776

“A strong body makes the mind strong. As to the species of exercises, I advise the gun. While this gives moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprise and independence to the mind. Games played with the ball, and others of that nature, are too violent for the body and stamp no character on the mind. Let your gun therefore be your constant companion of your walks.” – Thomas Jefferson, letter to Peter Carr, August 19, 1785

“The Constitution of most of our states (and of the United States) assert that all power is inherent in the people; that they may exercise it by themselves; that it is their right and duty to be at all times armed.”
– Thomas Jefferson, letter to to John Cartwright, 5 June 1824

“On every occasion [of Constitutional interpretation] let us carry ourselves back to the time when the Constitution was adopted, recollect the spirit manifested in the debates, and instead of trying [to force] what meaning may be squeezed out of the text, or invented against it, [instead let us] conform to the probable one in which it was passed.”
– Thomas Jefferson, letter to William Johnson, 12 June 1823

“I enclose you a list of the killed, wounded, and captives of the enemy from the commencement of hostilities at Lexington in April, 1775, until November, 1777, since which there has been no event of any consequence … I think that upon the whole it has been about one half the number lost by them, in some instances more, but in others less. This difference is ascribed to our superiority in taking aim when we fire; every soldier in our army having been intimate with his gun from his infancy.”
– Thomas Jefferson, letter to Giovanni Fabbroni, June 8, 1778

“They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.”
– Benjamin Franklin, Historical Review of Pennsylvania, 1759

“To disarm the people…[i]s the most effectual way to enslave them.”
– George Mason, referencing advice given to the British Parliament by Pennsylvania governor Sir William Keith, The Debates in the Several State Conventions on the Adooption of the Federal Constitution, June 14, 1788

“I ask who are the militia? They consist now of the whole people, except a few public officers.”
– George Mason, Address to the Virginia Ratifying Convention, June 4, 1788

“Before a standing army can rule, the people must be disarmed, as they are in almost every country in Europe. The supreme power in America cannot enforce unjust laws by the sword; because the whole body of the people are armed, and constitute a force superior to any band of regular troops.”
– Noah Webster, An Examination of the Leading Principles of the Federal Constitution, October 10, 1787

“Besides the advantage of being armed, which the Americans possess over the people of almost every other nation, the existence of subordinate governments, to which the people are attached, and by which the militia officers are appointed, forms a barrier against the enterprises of ambition, more insurmountable than any which a simple government of any form can admit of.”
– James Madison, Federalist No. 46, January 29, 1788

“The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. A well regulated militia, composed of the body of the people, trained to arms, is the best and most natural defense of a free country.”
– James Madison, I Annals of Congress 434, June 8, 1789

“…the ultimate authority, wherever the derivative may be found, resides in the people alone…”
– James Madison, Federalist No. 46, January 29, 1788

“Necessity is the plea for every infringement of human freedom. It is the argument of tyrants; it is the creed of slaves.”
– William Pitt (the Younger), Speech in the House of Commons, November 18, 1783

“A militia when properly formed are in fact the people themselves…and include, according to the past and general usuage of the states, all men capable of bearing arms… “To preserve liberty, it is essential that the whole body of the people always possess arms, and be taught alike, especially when young, how to use them.”
– Richard Henry Lee, Federal Farmer No. 18, January 25, 1788

“Guard with jealous attention the public liberty. Suspect everyone who approaches that jewel. Unfortunately, nothing will preserve it but downright force. Whenever you give up that force, you are ruined…. The great object is that every man be armed. Everyone who is able might have a gun.”
– Patrick Henry, Speech to the Virginia Ratifying Convention, June 5, 1778

“This may be considered as the true palladium of liberty…. The right of self defense is the first law of nature: in most governments it has been the study of rulers to confine this right within the narrowest limits possible. Wherever standing armies are kept up, and the right of the people to keep and bear arms is, under any color or pretext whatsoever, prohibited, liberty, if not already annihilated, is on the brink of destruction.”
– St. George Tucker, Blackstone’s Commentaries on the Laws of England, 1803

“The supposed quietude of a good man allures the ruffian; while on the other hand, arms, like law, discourage and keep the invader and the plunderer in awe, and preserve order in the world as well as property. The balance ofpower is the scale of peace. The same balance would be preserved were all the world destitute of arms, for all would be alike; but since some will not, others dare not lay them aside. And while a single nation refuses to lay them down, it is proper that all should keep them up. Horrid mischief would ensue were one-half the world deprived of the use of them; for while avarice and ambition have a place in the heart of man, the weak will become a prey to the strong. The history of every age and nation establishes these truths, and facts need but little arguments when they prove themselves.”
– Thomas Paine, “Thoughts on Defensive War” in Pennsylvania Magazine, July 1775

“The Constitution shall never be construed to prevent the people of the United States who are peaceable citizens from keeping their own arms.”
– Samuel Adams, Massachusetts Ratifying Convention, 1788

“The right of the citizens to keep and bear arms has justly been considered, as the palladium of the liberties of a republic; since it offers a strong moral check against the usurpation and arbitrary power of rulers; and will generally, even if these are successful in the first instance, enable the people to resist and triumph over them.”
– Joseph Story, Commentaries on the Constitution of the United States, 1833

“What, Sir, is the use of a militia? It is to prevent the establishment of a standing army, the bane of liberty …. Whenever Governments mean to invade the rights and liberties of the people, they always attempt to destroy the militia, in order to raise an army upon their ruins.”
– Rep. Elbridge Gerry of Massachusetts, I Annals of Congress 750, August 17, 1789

“For it is a truth, which the experience of ages has attested, that the people are always most in danger when the means of injuring their rights are in the possession of those of whom they entertain the least suspicion.”
– Alexander Hamilton, Federalist No. 25, December 21, 1787

“If the representatives of the people betray their constituents, there is then no resource left but in the exertion of that original right of self-defense which is paramount to all positive forms of government, and which against the usurpations of the national rulers, may be exerted with infinitely better prospect of success than against those of the rulers of an individual state. In a single state, if the persons intrusted with supreme power become usurpers, the different parcels, subdivisions, or districts of which it consists, having no distinct government in each, can take no regular measures for defense. The citizens must rush tumultuously to arms, without concert, without system, without resource; except in their courage and despair.”
– Alexander Hamilton, Federalist No. 28

“[I]f circumstances should at any time oblige the government to form an army of any magnitude that army can never be formidable to the liberties of the people while there is a large body of citizens, little, if at all, inferior to them in discipline and the use of arms, who stand ready to defend their own rights and those of their fellow-citizens. This appears to me the only substitute that can be devised for a standing army, and the best possible security against it, if it should exist.”
– Alexander Hamilton, Federalist No. 28, January 10, 1788

“As civil rulers, not having their duty to the people before them, may attempt to tyrannize, and as the military forces which must be occasionally raised to defend our country, might pervert their power to the injury of their fellow citizens, the people are confirmed by the article in their right to keep and bear their private arms.”
– Tench Coxe, Philadelphia Federal Gazette, June 18, 1789

The 2nd admendment
“It is a core foundational value of the American political system that legitimate power is derived from the consent of the governed. A lot of nations pay lip service to this idea, but the US is fairly unique in actually giving it teeth, by protecting the right of citizens to maintain arms sufficient to resist illegitimate government. However, we should not expect any member of the ruling class to actually like this idea. We should expect it to be regarded by them, pretty universally, with anything from skeptical disdain to outright horror. It’s a philosophy that that implies the people ultimately rule, that the ruling class is not inherently better or special, and we should expect them to take to that notion no better than a mother would, upon being told her offspring were neither better nor special.

So, politicians may make a show of supporting gun rights if it brings them votes, or money. They may refrain from attacking gun rights for those same reasons, or perhaps because they fear an armed populace bringing their whole system crashing down. But to look for principled friends among them is like looking for vegetarian wolves.”

“Embracing gun control is embracing the very police state you are complaining about. When you grant the state a monopoly on guns you position yourselves as the inevitable victims of their monopoly on violence. Neutering your second amendment by allowing the ban of AR-15’s And semi automatic rifles and handguns in favor of allowing citizens to possess only antique single shot firearms is a blatant and disingenuous violation of the 2nd amendment. If you can repeal the second amendment then why not the 1st? Either rights are inalienable or they are not. Ask the Russian and German jews, the Palestinians, the Jim Crow African Americans or the Tianemmen square massacred Chinese students what happens when you disarm the citizens of modern firearms. The distributed safeguard to freedom from tyranny created by an armed citizenry is paramount to safeguarding liberty. In a country with legalized indefinite detention, torture, drone strikes and mass domestic surveillance you are an absolute fool or a coward to argue for gun control. If you’re so worried about the children how about we stop herding them into minimum
Security prisons and calling them “schools” for storage so their parents can be turned into wage slave batteries. You could save 6x as many kids worrying about big pharma opioids killing thousands every year than dooming your posterity to a world of unarmed servitude”
Armed civilians have the power to resist a bad government, and the collective force of millions of armed Americans absolutely acts as a deterrent to increased authoritarianism from its own leaders.”

“Legislators and pundits who claim the United States would be safer without guns are extremely short-sighted. The country may see a slight downtick in deaths per year, but the cost is much larger than the payoff. Self-determination through civilians’ ability to fight authoritarian regimes is much more vital to preserving rights and freedom than is the illusion of safety.” – Dylan Moore in How Gun Ownership Protects Citizens From An Abusive Government

“Banning weapons is the most white privilege idea ever. Rich liberals scoffing at the idea that a person might need to defend their own life is a tower so ivory you can’t look at it in direct sunlight. It’s the personal safety equivalent of “just have the maid do it.”

“The private ownership of firearms is a rebuke to this utopian zeal. To own firearms is to affirm that freedom and liberty are not gifts from the state. It is to reserve final judgment whether the state is encroaching on freedom and liberty, to stand ready to defend that freedom, with more than mere words, and to stand outside the state’s totalitarian reach.”

A GUN FREE WORLD

“I wish we could go back in time and uninvent the gun. Because then, bigger stronger men who could swing swords and axes harder than their enemies would go back to ruling the world. No more of this ridiculous female “empowerment” and all minorities would be enslaved just the way they were meant to be. Without having disgusting guns to fight back, the weak and disenfranchised would have never forgotten their place in life, a life they should be thankful they were even allowed to have to begin with.”
