Roy Edward Voight: Infectious Laugh and Big Smile
This section includes both obituaries and memories. Honoring our loved ones who have died does not end immediately after their passing. We recognize that… so we’re extending our obituary section to include individuals who may have left a long time ago. If you want to remember someone who is gone, either recently or longer ago, please send a photo and a few sentences to [email protected].
Roy Edward Voight’s journey on this earth came to an end on 11/21/2018. His infectious laugh and big smile will be missed by those that knew and loved him.
Roy was born to David and Colleen Voight in Fortuna, CA on July 10, 1969. He attended elementary school at Rohner Elementary until the family moved to Grass Valley in 1979.
Roy loved the outdoors and was often duck hunting with his father, David Voight, and Grandfather, Ray Voight, at an early age. He started working in the woods with his dad and Uncle Tom Voight (Voight Bros. Logging) in high school. His weekends were spent gold panning in the creeks and rivers around Grass Valley, CA.
Later he moved back to the Fortuna area and started a family of his own. He continued logging in the Humboldt County area working for Canevari Timber, Leonardo Logging, and contracting with Brad Endicott and Dave Grandy over the years.
Roy is preceded in death by his son, Austin Robert Neal, father, David Michael Voight, uncle, Thomas Leroy Voight, paternal grandparents Raymond and Mildred Voight, maternal grandmother Violet Stidd and “Papa” Jack Stidd, maternal grandfather, Mickey McGuire, and Aunt Jacquelyn Steinhoff.
Roy is survived by his son, Andrew Voight, daughter Madeline Neal, mother Colleen McGuire, brother, Michael Voight, nephew Joshua Voight, niece Katlyn Temple, uncles Ray (Gene) Voight, Chuck Voight, Rick Voight, Pat McGuire, aunts Sharon Voight and Tami Voight and numerous cousins, friends and co-workers.
He will be missed by all. A celebration of his life will be held at the Fortuna Veterans Memorial Building, 1426 Main Street, Fortuna, CA at 3:00 PM on 12/1/2018. The family is requesting that family and friends bring a dish, potluck style, to the celebration.
A private graveside service for family only will be at Sunrise Cemetery at 2:00 PM.
