[UPDATE: Suspect Arrested] Man Reportedly Armed With a Shotgun Flees From Blue Lake, High Speed Chase Ends At Crescent City Motel, 101 Shut Down

At approximately 7:30 this morning, a man who was reportedly armed with a shotgun was allegedly confronted by employees of the Play Station 777 which is just down the road from the Blue Lake Casino, according to information on the scanner. Witnesses reported that a number of law enforcement responded soon after that.

The armed suspect fled first on foot and then in a vehicle, according to reports over the scanner. There was a high-speed chase north on Hwy 101. Reportedly spike strips were deployed.

The armed suspect again reportedly fled on foot to the Crescent Beach Motel just south of Crescent City. There are reports of a possible hostage situation. We do know that at 11:27 a.m. one law enforcement agency offered a hostage negotiation team.

The Del Norte County Alert system sent out this at 9:56 a.m.:

Armed individual:
The Del Norte Sheriff’s Office is currently dealing with an armed individual at the Crescent Beach Motel.

The area will be blocked to traffic. Avoid the area and use alternative routes. We will adivse further information when available.

We’ve requested information from both the Humboldt and Del Norte County Sheriff’s Departments but have not received responses in this ongoing and very tense situation.

A California Highway Patrol dispatcher has confirmed that Hwy 101 is shut down south of Crescent City due to “an incident.”

UPDATE 11:45 a.m.: A CHP helicopter landed nearby. Conner Cochrane shared this on the Del Norte and Curry County Scanner Feed and we’ve embedded it below.

UPDATE 12:30 p.m.: Caltrans District 1 tweeted at 12:27 p.m., “US 101 through Crescent City is closed due to law enforcement activities. CHP has set up a detour using local roads, and motorists should expect minor delays.”

UPDATE 1:31 p.m.: According to a post by the Triplicate on Facebook a few minutes ago,

An armed robbery suspect from Humboldt County is currently holed up at the Crescent Beach Motel with an unknown weapon, according to the Del Norte County Sheriff’s Office.
There are no hostages, according to Del Norte County Sheriff’s Cmdr. Bill Steven.
The unidentified man fled in a vehicle from the scene in Humboldt county and was spotted traveling northbound through Klamath by a Yurok Police officer, Steven said.
