Drunk Driver Splits Car In Two, Say Arcata Police

Last night, a drunk driver wrecked on South G Street in Arcata. This morning Arcata Police (APD) posted photos saying,

One of our Officers once said that driving drunk is one of the most selfish crimes. In a split second a drunk driver can irreversibly destroy families. Last night we responded to a drunk driver that literally split his car in two. Thank God no one was injured.
PLEASE DO NOT DRINK AND DRIVE!! #nothingfunnyaboutdrunkdriving…

According County jail records, Tony Mitchell was arrested by APD for driving under the influence at 8:46 p.m.

I’m so disgusted!! He’s probably already out this morning, just in time to do it again. They don’t care about anybody but themselves and suffer no consequences.

No consequences? Clearly you haven’t experienced the full wrath of California’s DUI laws … depending on the circumstances a DUI can be charged as a felony! And that’s before we even talk about the civil liability..

A first offense DUI costs the offender about $10,000 in court, school & insurance costs. I call that a consequence

It’s clearly not deterrent enough because we have people still getting arrested every hour and day of the week for driving while drunk.
My oldest child was recently strunk while walking by a repeat offender at 2 in the afternoon in the middle of his college campus! He is still unable to return to work due to his lingering concussion symptoms.

drunk drivers kill lots more kids than guns do. Get these cars out of the hands of drunk murderers.

Alcohol related accidents account for about 17 percent of adolescents deaths by vehicle per year. So to be fair sober people actually kill far more children with vehicles per year than drunks do. So… get cars out of sober murderers hands too?

I don’t know how many crash deaths there are, but there are 96 gun deaths every day in the US. That is over 35,000 gun deaths every year.

And over half (64%) of those gun deaths are suicides. That’s people taking their own life. Leaving about 1700 people murdered or accident killed, out of over 325,000,000 people. That is roughly a 0.0005230769230769231% chance of being murdered or accidentally killed by a firearm. Unless of course you’re suicidal, then the odds increase quite a bit. There are over 44,000 suicide each year.

There are over 10,000 DUI related deaths each year, that is around 29 a day. This is people taking other people’s lives because of bad decisions. With around 32,000 driving related deaths each year. With over 2000 being children. Compared to about 1,300 kids being killed with guns 500 of which commit suicide. Which comes out to 800 to 2000, quite a difference. although I will admit, I don’t know how many kids commit suicide with their car.

Traffic accidents poisoning and drowning make up 85% of unintentional deaths each year.

Some countries require mental evaluations after a dwi as well. They basically consider you insane if your judgement is so bad that you try to drive drunk.

You’re right, because who’s ever seen a drunk driver outside Humboldt?

What an intelligent, meaningful comment.

The good news besides his not hurting any person or animal is that So. G St is where Arcata Salvage is. Saves towing fees. S/

South G arcata? Are you sure it wasn’t simply the deplorable road conditions that split the car in half?
