Multiple Escaped Burns on Greenwood Heights East of Eureka

About a quarter after 3 p.m., a report came in of multiple escaped burns in the 4500 block of Greenwood Heights east of Eureka. According to the scanner, multiple burn piles have escaped and are “running uphill.”

The fires are burning in timber and there are power lines in the area.

Humboldt Bay Fire is responding to the fire. Copter 902 which has been at the fire north of Dinsmore is now being diverted to this fire. A tanker has been ordered from Redding but there is no current time estimated for it to respond.

I still don’t understand why they lifted the burn restrictions. I still don’t even feel comfortable building a fire in my fireplace yet, been using mr. Heaters.

Of course, we never run it more than an hour or two. And certainly never overnight while were sleeping. And the new mr. Heaters have so many damn safety features it’s hard to keep it lit anyways;<)

I just saw these unattended burns walking my dogs at dusk behind the ballfield on Fern.

I too saw another unattended large burn with massive piles of debris near it. It’s like people never question whether they should do something because they’ve been told they can do something.

weather changes. we had some pretty damp weather, I obtained the required burn permits, burnt some piles, with precautions. No problem. The permit from CalFire says don’t burn if it’s windy. Good advice. I stopped lighting piles when the weather got drier. No problem. Those piles on Fern look ok. they burnt cleaner by doing it now. if it was soaking in humboldt rain they’d smolder all winter.
