Flags at Half Staff Today After Former EPD Sergeant Unexpectedly Passed Away

By request of the Mayor and order of the City Manager, all flags at City facilities will be flown at half-staff today in honor of James “Jim” Armstrong. Retired Sergeant Armstrong of Eureka Police Department passed away unexpectedly on Monday, November 5, 2018. Jim Armstrong served the City of Eureka November 1981 thru May 5, 2011 retiring at the rank of Sergeant.

Jim was currently working for the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office as a part-time extra help deputy at the time of his passing and active with the Humboldt Amateur Radio Club.
Flags will remain at half-staff thru the end of the day.

The Mayor, Council, and City of Eureka staff extends our deepest condolences to the Armstrong family.

So very sorry for your loss. He will be missed greatly. I knew Jim for along time. We started working at Sears together after high school together. Many kind thoughts,and prayers to all his family. We also worked together through different agencies. Rip Jim!

My heart is broken Jim. You’re get’r-dun attitude moved so many projects past ideas to real working/functional things. Our whole ham community will forever be at a loss without you guiding the way forward.. I’m going to miss butting heads with you too. You were truly amazing. God bless your family.
