I live in Trinidad and two years ago I had a pedestrian literally try to throw themselves in front of my car as I was getting close to my on-ramp. The girl looked like something out the walking dead. I go by that trailer park 1000s of times and I cannot tell you how many times someone in all black is walking and edge of the road and look twacked out of their mind. Not saying that this situation is something where the driver might not have done something wrong however I consider myself lucky to have never had someone on the edge of that road as I have gotten so close multiple times driving around here on the humboldt roads

My Grandson Ben Taggart was killed by a hit and run driver just north of Eureka almost two years ago. The case has never been solved. Every day I think about the fact that somebody has to live with the knowledge that they killed this much loved young man.

I had the pleasure of knowing and teaching Ben when he was a teen, I am so very sorry for your loss. Ben was truly special person, and such a talented artist. I think of him often and how there’s been no justice, I hope this person’s family gets more answers. I’ll never forget Ben, such a tragity, he had so much more life to live. Thank you for commenting and keeping his memory alive❤️

Whoa now.

It’s 5:37 in the a m. when the call went out . How long was he already down?

And why is this pedestrian on the 101?

In that predawn darkness the driver may not even know what he hit.

If someone unwittingly clips a raccoon or other mammal in the dark on the highway their first instinct isn’t to pull over.

I’d hesitate to demonize this person if there is no evidence supporting that they are even aware of collision. (And if victim was already prone on the road it wouldn’t be hard to roll over them at 65mph)

I notice no car parts found …

Well, the victim was obvious enough to the observant driver who stopped and reported it. 5:37 a.m. was also well before light this morning, and that person could see it.

Responsible drivers DO stop when their car “bumps” something on the road. They either pack a good sharp hunting knife or are permitted to carry a gun. Nothing should be left to suffer, not even humans.

If you hit something the size of a person at 70 mph, you will know it. Even in your lifted behemoth 4×4. You will know.

He was bleeding on the road doesn’t necessarily mean he was hit by a vehicle.

That is what I thought. I can guess there were no stab or gunshot wounds.

No no no. This breaks my heart.

I regret to say that I may have some info, hopefully it is helpful. I recall seeing a person in dark clothing walking on the right shoulder of the 101 north at about 1am. It really spooked me and I made a remark to my boyfriend in the car with me.

I am fairly certain that when I saw him, he was between the Giuntoli and Murray exits. We had left the show at the ATL and were headed for the airport hotel for the night so we could make an early flight this morning.

If he continued walking an avg pace from the approx location where I saw him (7.5 miles), that suggests he could’ve arrived where he was reported hit between 2 & 3am.

I pray he did not suffer long and has found peace now.

The victim was Stephen Mark Greer aka Mark and he was my friend. He was camping under the tree near where he was hit. He chose to be outdoors most of his life and had some mental health issues. He knew that he could come to my house for a hot meal and couch to sleep on if the weather was cold and wet and he needed a break from the elements even so he preferred to be outdoors. I’m going to miss him and I am going to have a memorial for him and have him cremated once the autopsy is done. Thanks to saint Joseph hospital and the Humboldt county coroner I was able to find out that it was my friend and I can give him a proper service.
