This is a press release from the League of Women Voters of Humboldt County:

The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan political organization that encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy. The League only takes positions on ballot measures based on current advocacy positions and League principles. Positions are developed based on grassroots member study and consensus. The League of Women Voters of California has issued the following recommendations for the Nov. 6, 2018 election.

PROP 1 Veterans and Affordable Housing Bond: YES

Prop 1 will build and preserve affordable homes, including supportive housing, for veterans, working families, people with disabilities, Californians experiencing homelessness and others struggling to find a safe place to call home. It will authorize $4 billion in general obligation bonds, to be used to support these affordable housing programs.

PROP 2 Homeless Housing Bond: YES

Prop 2 allows the use of unspent money, originally allocated through a 2004 measure to fund mental health services, to be directed towards helping California residents that are homeless and suffer from mental illness. If passed, the unspent money would be used to provide permanent supportive housing for people who need mental health services, and are either currently homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.

PROP 3 Water Bond: NO

While the League of Women Voters of California supports the use of long-term debt (bond measures) to finance capital projects, this measure has a number of fatal flaws, including: shifting the cost for water from the end users to California taxpayers; reducing state money available for other critical state programs like education, affordable housing, and healthcare; and failing to provide for adequate project oversight and financial accountability.

PROP 4 Children’s Hospital Bond: NO

While the League of Women Voters of California supports quality healthcare for all Californians, Prop 4 would use $1.5 billion in public, general obligation bond money to support privately-owned children’s hospitals, along with five children’s hospitals in the University of California system. State funds should not be used to support private facilities.

PROP 5 Property Tax: NO

Prop 5 is a costly constitutional amendment that would reduce funds for schools and local services by $1 billion per year. It does nothing to help low income seniors, or families struggling to find housing.

PROP 6 Gas Tax Repeal: NO

Prop 6 would repeal the package of taxes and fees approved by the State Legislature in 2017 to fund transportation projects, amounting to a loss of $4.7 billion in annual funding. Passage of this repeal measure would have significant negative impacts and leave our state structures vulnerable, especially during natural disasters.

PROP 10 Repeal Costa Hawkins: YES

Prop 10 would allow communities to place rent control ordinances where they find appropriate. We support providing local communities with this control.

Another press release from League of Women Voters of Humboldt County President Rollin Richmond:

Four years ago, Humboldt County voters decided they were tired of having too few deputies on patrol; inadequate rural fire protection; and crumbling roads.  Sacramento kept cutting state funding for these vital services, and so our local citizens passed Measure Z, a one-half cent sales tax.  The funds from this sales tax were specifically to be used for maintaining and enhancing public safety and essential services.

With these funds, the county was able to add new deputies in the rural areas of Humboldt, keep the McKinleyville station manned 24/7, increase the number of probation officers, beef up the District Attorney’s office; support volunteer fire departments with additional resources and training; provide better support services for children who had been the victims of crime; and repair many miles of decaying roads.

Measure Z is due to sunset on March 31, 2020. In order to keep this very small tax in place, voters need to pass its replacement, Measure O.  This will provide Humboldt with a guaranteed source of local funding that cannot be taken by the state.  It will not raise the sales tax rates again, but will maintain the current level  passed by voters in 2014.  The Humboldt County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to place Measure O on the November 6, 2018 ballot.

If the measure does not pass, we could go back to the bad old days, when southern Humboldt had no deputies at night, and only two or three deputies covered all of northern and eastern Humboldt.

The League of Women Voters of Humboldt County supports adequate local government financing to maintain government services to meet the demands of the community.  Please Vote “Yes” on Measure O.

Wow! So much for non-partisan. Last year is the last time I send a check to the League. Too bad they were about the last source of unbiased information around and even now they’re taking sides.

They’ve lost a lot of the people’s confidence when they chose to be alt-left. They need a new handle or handler or both.

As a Christian, it’s easy to see right through demons and the lies they speak.

I’m glad he’s going to use the military on the migrant caravan headed this way.

Though as a Christian, I don’t believe women should be voting or running for any type of office.

The League Of Woman Voters are satanic communists with a plan to destroy America and Israel.

This fascinating video captures the importance between the Olive Trees and the LampStands, Israel and America. It made sense to me, so thought I’d take advantage of an OT moment and post it for others. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fE81HrKxHoo

Just can’t resist offering their opinions even those that means they cease being a reliable source for unbiased information. Sad.

You mean they used the z funds to fund shutting down our economy and violate our privacy, and to trample on our Constitutional rights and property rights.they used it to extort hundreds upon hundreds of our citizens,to leave us heading into foreclosure and having to probably leave our homes and the place we love in search of a living because this area offers no other industry.yeah sure women voters !!!! Already voted no on o and urge the rest of the county to do the same!!!! The supervisors tricked us and lied and slithered the z money to destroy our lives and extort us!!!!! And we’ll never get it repealed it’s more government bleeding and it’s FOREVER!!!! They gouj us enough for taxes, fees, fines, permits, property taxes, sales tax, income tax,gas tax, moving violations, fix it tickets, dmv fees, parking tickets, and now they want rural residents to register to pay a water bill on there own land in an attempt to steal riperian water rights.the extortion revenue machine has NO shame!!!!!

Hello people! Heads up!!
An organization doesn’t need to be ‘partisan’ (meaning not to or aligned with a political party or person, etc.) to have and share an opinion!! Could be their mission is looking out for the greater good.

Once a organization has chosen to support a measure, can they be relied on to provide information that doesn’t support it? Apparently, while claiming non partisanship, they have magically found themselves totally aligned with the Democrats’ voter’s guide.

Wrong or right on a vote is a matter of opinion, not information. The League of Woman Voters has decided that their opinion is worth more than their reputation for disinterested information.

I am gonna take a wild guess here, and say I believe that the League doesn’t endorse candidates. And, they DO sponsor and host candidate debates and forums that allow equal time and fairness to (at least) both Democrats and Republicans.
Perhaps, underlining all this is that Democratic positions are generally more reflective of the citizens best interests. Republicans represent, in broad terms, a more elite and corporate agenda. (If you reply, please note my use of the words, “generally” and “broad”).

Now that wildly different than my impression. Republicans can be elitist as certainly are many self satisfied Democrats (JFK, FDR, Clinton, Obama- all were either elitist or the actual elite) who make it a point to suck up to money hard enough they are the center of a low pressure weather system permanently. Clinton infamously expressed contempt for her opponents as the Deplorables.

On the other hand, a lot of Republicans are successful immigrants who appreciate the opportunity to start with nothing and succeed. While a whole lot of Democrats are fond of offering subsidies and suppressing individual success. They certainly like their dependent groups complaining. It keeps them in office.

this guy has his own wikipedia page. it says he gave cocaine to flies and the Academic Senate at HSU voted by 56% to issue a vote of no confidence in Rollin Richmond’s leadership.[2]

Under his leadership Humboldt State University was recently reaccredited for ten years (maximum possible) by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. They noted that significant change must occur at Humboldt State including a reformulation of shared governance.
