Hwy 36: Now With Only 30 Minute Delays

Hwy 36 signResidents and travelers out Hwy 36 have been struggling with the extended closure times due to a Federal Highways realignment project between mile marker 36 to just past mile marker 40. Basically, the road is closed Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. with an hour from 12 to 1 p.m. that allowed through traffic.

Now that has changed. According to Kody King, Public Information Officer for Mercer Fraser,

Project Details: Federal Highways Administration and Mercer Fraser Company will be continuing a realignment project between Humboldt Post Mile 36.05 and Humboldt Post Mile 40.44 that was started last year. These improvements will realign the highway and straighten out the sharp curves on the existing highway now.
Time: Full Road Closures will end October 31st, 2018. Flagging with 30 min delays will begin Thursday November 1st and extend into next spring as weather permits.
Closure Times: The Highway will experience 30-minute delays Monday thru Thursday 7am to 7pm and Fridays 7am -3pm. The highway will not be open for an hour between 12pm and 1pm, instead we will be constantly flagging the project with 30 min delays.
Contact: If you need questions answered or have any concerns feel free to contact the contractors Public Information Officer Kody King at (707)273-9097.

  • Today, Halloween, is the LAST day of full closures for the year… yay!

    • Yes, TOMORROW is the end and looking forward to it. Dealing with surgical post op has been a real treat with this closure…

  • Thanks for the update.

  • Mercer Fraser sucks

really sick of the inconvenience and hassles.. 2 years now and those morons at Mercer Fraser are still not done.. this really is a bunch of bullshit that they can fuck over all the residents and businesses on this side of the closure for so long.. are we gonna have full closure again next summer too?? i’m sure we will.. their trucks fly by the dinsmore store constantly without slowing down.. surprised someone backing out hasn’t gotten nailed by one

  • Good one! I too am so damn sick of the closures, along with rocks, DUST & heavy equipment. On the positive side the workers have been nothing but helpful. This crap wouldn’t happen anywhere but Humboldt.

  • A question for anyone who’s been through there lately? How is it looking? Is it mostly paved now?

    • Not payed yet but the progress they have made is amazing! I’d say they’re just about ready to put down the winter asphalt.

      • Thanks for that. I haven’t made it out that way in about 7 or 8 months. After 50 years of driving the old road I can’t wait to give it a go.

  • Yay! can’t wait to see finished project
