DNA Offered by Suspect in Rape Case Leads to His Arrest

Marcus CaldwellThis is a press release from the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office. The information has not been proven in a court of law and any individuals described should be presumed innocent until proven guilty:

On 1/21/18 around 6:43 AM Mendocino County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to the 2600 Block of Mitomka Way in Willits after a 30 year old female reported a man forced entry into her home and forcibly raped her.  The suspect then fled the location.  The victim was transported to Howard Memorial Hospital in Willits where a sexual assault examination was conducted and biological evidence obtained.

Even though the attack happened in darkness the female victim was convinced, due to physical characteristics she noted during the assault, that her attacker was Marcus Caldwell, 27 years of age, also living in the Willits area.  Caldwell was known to the victim prior to the assault.

The Mendocino County Sheriff’s Detectives were called out to respond and conduct further investigation.  It was discovered the suspect cut the power to the house prior to making entry.  Caldwell was later contacted and he denied being involved in the attack.  Caldwell volunteered his DNA sample to detectives, indicating the sample would clear him of any wrong doing.

On 10/24/2018 Sheriff’s Detectives were notified by the California Department of Justice Laboratory the DNA comparison had been completed and the results were matched to that of suspect Marcus Caldwell.  The case was reviewed by the Mendocino County District Attorney’s Office and a warrant issued for the arrest of Caldwell.

On 10/26/2018 Sheriff’s Detectives located Caldwell while he was working in Anderson Valley and he was taken into custody on one count of forcible rape.  He was lodged into the Mendocino County jail with bail being set at $500,000.

Caldwell was arraigned in the Mendocino County Superior Court on 10/30/2018 where his bail was continued at $500,000 and a no-contact restraining order was issued by Judge Moorman prohibiting Caldwell from having any contact with the victim in this case.

  • He in a heap of trouble

  • I hope liberal California does not let him get probation !!! He needs to be sentenced to life where he can rape with the rest of the trash like him .

  • What a dumbass

  • Dont assume all men are sexual predators

“They” being who? men? Or black men? Because you’re comment could be taken way out of context. Maybe devuldge a little bit more instead of just coming off as a sexist racist jerk?

  • She probably had sex with him voluntary and got mad at him and lied.

  • It’s too bad it took so long to get the DNA results back from the lab.

  • There are two sides to a story. It’s very peculiar that his bail was set at $500,000. I wonder if he had any priors and that is why the judge issued this bail? Anyone can holler rape when they can’t get something from a person. I believe the woman knew this man and was involved in a relationship. When she couldn’t get something from him, e.g., like always, a White woman will scream bloody rape and the Black man is arrested. My advice to Black men is not to mess with these women. They will cry for rape and lie on you in a heartbeat. She could have cut the electric. Anyway, why would a Black man be in Willits of all places. Something does not add. There’s a motive —either drugs, sex, or money.

    • Wow….. he cut the power to her house. And he was working on a grow. He offered his DNA as evidence he didn’t rape her: don’t you think he would have mentioned them having sex at that point? Or being in a relationship? Not claiming his DNA ‘would clear him’.
But sure, she’s the one lying….. [edit]
