Dear Humboldt Neighbors,

In this time of division in our nation, I am reminded that we are all one. There is no separation. Skin color, birthplace, money at our disposal, neighborhood we live in; these are superficial. I choose to guide my Measure K vote with the long-lived principal: Do onto others as I would want done to me.

I stand by my unauthorized neighbors who are already living here. They are participating in our work force and educating their children in our schools. They are volunteering and participating in many of our community endeavors. I grieve for their continued state of fear and sense of not belonging. I hear from friends that a large vote for Measure K would help them feel that our Humboldt County community is doing it’s best to support and protect them.

When I hear the argument that Measure K is against the federal immigration law, I cringe. What did Humboldt County just do with legalizing cannabis? It’s still not legal with our federal government and yet our local government has totally embraced it. We did not wait for the federal government to figure out the cannabis system, so why can’t we begin changing the immigration system here at home, one vote at a time?

I urge all of us to open our hearts and minds. Please support our unauthorized neighbors and vote Yes for Measure K.

What did Humboldt county do with legalization!!! They used it as an excuse to extort, rip off and violate there residents into the ground!!!! They used it to collapse our local economy, the politicians who made the rules were and are corrupt manipulating the system they designed for personal greed.now that we live in a economically depressed area wher the wealth is distributed to the rich elite and politicly connected do we need the minimal jobs being taken by outsiders???? But hey it’s a great idea and a nice thing to do but think survival for humboltians. And the county will make enough money off there extortion and money grab so vote no on measure o.they don’t need to take any more food out of our kids mouth THERE GREEDY!!!!!!! The new greenrush is the rip off extortion county government

Please go to Mexico, or any mid east country, or europe, without a passport or papers. Try it, I dare you. The people of California are forced, through over taxation, to pay $25 billion a year to support law breakers. We teach the kids in our schools to not pay taxes, to do their share to stop the illegal funding of illegal aliens.

Just read where the mayor of Tijuana say he is rounding up caravaners and deporting them. Good for him. He says they have drugs, are assaulting his citizens, they are aggressive and dangerous. They rape the vulnerable and are not good people. Hey Kirk, these are your illegals. Why do you want them here? You are not intelligent, that’s why. These wonderful creatures are causing problems all along their trail of crime and abuse. He also is asking for $4million for help. Keep them out!

I think most people want better immigration law. How can we have that if the law is not enforced?

80% of the world lives in poverty, how many should we welcome into the United States? Should we really start with those who violated our laws as their first act in this country?

I love Mexican culture but I think the way that we can help the most Mexicans would be by improving Mexico, not by importing a significant portion of their population.

Nothing in Measure K prevents enforcement of immigration law – by the authorities whom are designated that responsibility.

I don’t have any “unauthorized neighbors”. I’ve never lived in a neighborhood where my neighbors had to be “authorized”.

There are of course people who have immigrated illegally AKA illegal immigrants.

Perpetual illegal immigration is part of a scheme to create societal & political chaos. When the rule of law is voided for 15 million illegals then what laws actually matter? Does citizenship mean anything? A nation is defined by its borders, enforce the rule of law

I think it is the result of hundreds of thousands of individual people making the decision that hiring an illegal is a way of not having the expensive reporting, bookkeeping and taxes. Others are bringing in relatives or supporting compatriots as they do not identify with being American first or at all for that matter. All ignoring inconvenient laws for self interest.

All the proceeds from LEGAL pay off weed are heading for Sacramento that’s why Gavin newsom slithered east coast money here too get it passed. And the dike rip off supervisors are ruining the good people here so most of them are making plans of escape.the ones that will stay are the ones that have been big time weasel ratts for years and years.maybe a flood of ILLEGALs commuting crimes is what our extortionist county government deserves

She makes the point of illegality becoming the new norm. Her bad logic is “if some people say it is okay, it is okay.” State propositions are tyranny of the minority. Millions despise dope use and dope dealing. Just because crime and gangsterism are “the new norm” does not mean that is a good thing. Humboldt is a cess pool BECAUSE of dope. Growers are gangsters and criminals. Liberals voted to make dope “legal.” That means jack to people who are not criminals, who are not dangerous Mexicans working in the hills tending the crops to feed addiction.

Enough with this criminal mentality! Enough with liberal complacence! You should be turning your neighbors in, not winking and buying dope yourself. The illegals come here and work, but they send most of it back. I have seen the Moneygram transactions! Many of them do not even try to learn English. Your bleeding heart will only bleed out in the end.

Meanwhile, traitorous candidates like Kim Bergel welcome criminal aliens with open arms ….

So if laws restricting non-violent activity are acts of aggression why don’t you just run out and take down the signs that say; Load Limit On Bridge 10,000 Pounds, Danger Keep Out, 25 MPH Curve Ahead, Caution High Voltage etc. Those signs are there for people who are too simple to see danger for themselves. The US Constitution, which is just a fancy sign, was written for the same reason. It was created to keep people from letting their immature emotions destroy our country and themselves. People for sanctuary better slow down, because there used to be a sign on that 25 mile curve that you’re going into at 80, but some idiot took it down. I would advise the sanctuaryians to slow down and read the signs if I thought they were capable of comprehending the consequences of not doing so. But I have learned a lot from caring for my schizophrenic, autistic, hyperactive nephew, so I think I just keep an eye on him and not try to explain the world to someone who won’t understand. Unfortunately he’s going to learn some things the hard way, that’s for sure.

A warning sign is a warning sign. Do you really think murder needs to be written d o w n for it to be a crime?

The idiot signs at intersections is one example of acts of agression – IF YOU RUN THIS RED LIGHT – HERE’S HOW MUCH IT WILL COST YOU. Planting a seed in Mother Earth would be another.

“I stand by my unauthorized neighbors who are already living here. They are participating in our work force and educating their children in our schools.”

I don’t. Go the fuck home and wait in line; you were not invited, you broke our laws. Illegals consume more gov benefits than native born citizens, crowding our already over crowded schools and taxing an already overtaxed public. There is tent cities all over California. Somehow, liberals believe, that inviting the entire third world here, many who are illiterate in their own native language, is going to make us more prosperous. There’s not a chance.
Liberals only care about the appearance of caring, fuck the facts, fuck reality. Who cares about tent cities and our diminishing quality of life, as long as I appear to be kind and caring. This is why liberalism is such a dishonest, despicable ideology

Always “open your heart and minds” as if that didn’t include “opening your heart and minds” to the people who are already here when the new immigrants undercut their jobs and wages. It’s a dose of attempted emotional blackmail.

This is not as simple a problem as the letter writer’s emotions would have it. The reason that immigration limits exist is to protect citizens from endless competition, cheapening their labor whole still demanding they pay for the displaced. She finds herself in the company of greedy employers looking to undercut their competition by not having to pay required benefits and taxes. Yet I’d bet if asked she would simultaneously complain about greedy corporations or the poor being underserved. That too is typical emotional rhetoric that seeks to feel better but helps create the very conditions it complains about.

There may be hateful reasons for not support Measure K just as their are for supporting it. Racism is not the property of one race. But not supporting Measure K does not make someone a racist, as the letter writer’s first nonsensical paragraph is busy implying. There are hundreds of good reasons not to vote for it- from it being illegal from its inception, to worry about the loss of labor rights so ready paid for in blood in the previous century.

Beside that idea that we are all one is just silly. As silly as the rest of the letter. We are in fact different down to the very DNA in our cells. Each and every one of us.

You’ve raised an interesting point. I was listening to talk-radio the other day and the topic was the Latino vote: where is it and how can it NOT be organized? The conclusion drawn by the host was that if the Latino vote is suppressed for whatever reason, it’s a good thing for black and white Californians. Latino folks, motivated and voting, would wield enormous power here in our State and the callers mostly feared that fact being brought to light.

Yes and immigrants and their first generation children account for over 55% of the population growth in America. So all of you that support illegal immigration, yet think this world and this country are overpopulated, might contemplate your conflict of interest there. Immigrants also use more social benefits then native-born Americans. Illegal immigrants also make up over 30% of our prison population.

Just like a herd of livestock, in order to keep the herd healthy you have to bring stock in from outside the herd. But when you do, you make sure that the stock you’re bringing in has traits that you want. Otherwise the undesirable traits spread to the rest of the herd…

I am stone cold against sanctuary. If the Latino community is to wield power, they need to vote as a legal, American citizen. I’m totally good with that. Not all Latinos are stupid, and some actually savy US values and like them. A lot of them could teach our white bread dopers a thing or two about survival without relying on welfare. Like; Work asshole. There are a lot of things their culture could teach the deadbeats running around in this state. I don’t think we should vote to let the trash in though. Anyone caught trying to vote without citizenship should be kicked in the ass and immediately deported. Like right now. The sanctuary advocates say they’re willing to live with the worst of the worst from Mexico among them, as long as we can’t report them to ICE. Fuck that from way back. I’m not ready to live in Mexico. You ran from it. Don’t bring it here.

The Feds were delegated the duties of controlling all foreign issues/matters.
The State’s retained the powers for creating the rules that are uniform throughout all the states to abide to.
Pot is not a foreign matter/issue, except when it crosses the borders, therefore, each State has the power of authority on whether or not to legalize or decriminalize pot.
As far as the ‘anchor babies’ amendment goes, it was misinterpreted and never meant to naturalize any baby not born into already naturalized/lega/documented/ families. America always did have a ‘say what?!’ moment when the amendment was distorted to allow Russians or any foreign person to give birth on American soil, register the baby as American and then take the baby back home to Russia or wherever to be raised in a foreign lifestyle and constitution.
It’s all very complicated, and nobody is against any particular nationality that I’m aware of, but there are a lot of people that are upset that laws and rules are being perverted in order to take advantage of America’s generosity and trusting spirit. Every nation has their quota of the law abiding and the non law abiding. The conned and the cons. There’s nothing ‘racist’ about safeguarding the law abiding from the non law abiding. Like Obama is famous for saying “”The only people that don’t want to disclose the truth, are people with something to hide.” . Unfortunately, those who don’t know the truth are easily targeted by the oppressors of the truth.

For all of you who aren’t sure that there is a difference between being an American and being a “U.S. citizen”:

“We have in our political system a government of the United States and a government of each of the several States. Each one of these governments is distinct from the others, and each has citizens of its own…” United States v. Cruikshank, 92 U.S. 542 (1875)

“…he was not a citizen of the United States, he was a citizen and voter of the State,…” “One may be a citizen of a State and yet not a citizen of the United States”. McDonel v. The State, 90 Ind. 320 (1883)

“That there is a citizenship of the United States and citizenship of a state,…” Tashiro v. Jordan, 201 Cal. 236 (1927)

“A citizen of the United States is a citizen of the federal government …” Kitchens v. Steele, 112 F.Supp 383

“On the other hand, there is a significant historical fact in all of this. Clearly, one of the purposes of the 13th and 14th Amendments and of the 1866 act and of section 1982 was to give the Negro citizenship. Jones v. Alfred H. Mayer Co. (1967), 379 F.2d 33, 43.

“The object of the 14th Amendment, as is well known, was to confer upon the colored race the right of citizenship. ” United States v. Wong Kim Ark, 169 U. S. 649, 692.

“The governments of the United States and of each state of the several states are distinct from one another. The rights of a citizen under one may be quite different from those which he has under the other”. Colgate v. Harvey, 296 U.S. 404; 56 S.Ct. 252 (1935)

“There is a difference between privileges and immunities belonging to the citizens of the United States as such, and those belonging to the citizens of each state as such”. Ruhstrat v. People, 57 N.E. 41 (1900)

“The rights and privileges, and immunities which the fourteenth constitutional amendment and Rev. St. section 1979 [U.S. Comp. St. 1901, p. 1262], for its enforcement, were designated to protect, are such as belonging to citizens of the United States as such, and not as citizens of a state”. Wadleigh v. Newhall 136 F. 941 (1905)

“…rights of national citizenship as distinct from the fundamental or natural rights inherent in state citizenship”. Madden v. Kentucky, 309 U.S. 83: 84 L.Ed. 590 (1940)

Be aware that if you want to read law you have to go to a Law Library and read the hard copy, and if you want to know what really happened you have to go into the case files. What appears online is often heavily redacted, simplified, and annotated in various ways. It has been profitable to the knaves to hide key citations and they have done so, just as they have burned books and suppressed treaties throughout their history.

Not sure what you’re point is, but a court in examining a law only goes to “legislative history” where there is ambiguity. The only ambiguity in the applicable line of the 14th amendment is the “subject to United States laws” portion and the legislative history there mentions three exceptions to birthright citizenship.

1. Diplomatic personnel – not subject to our laws, can’t be arrested.
2. Native Americans – at the time were considered members of separate sovereign nations when born on Tribal Land.
3. Conquering occupying foreign soldiers – presumably our law didn’t apply to them since they would replace it with their own. After we drove them from the land, they could not claim citizenship because they were never subject to US law.

No other exceptions came up in debate.

Great list! I’d like to add to it though, if you don’t mind. (even if you do mind lol).

“”Every person born within the limits of the United States, and subject to their jurisdiction, is by virtue of natural law and national law a citizen of the United States. This will not, of course, include persons born in the United States who are foreigners, aliens, who belong to the families of ambassadors or foreign ministers accredited to the Government of the United States, but will include every other class of persons. It settles the great question of citizenship and removes all doubt as to what persons are or are not citizens of the United States. This has long been a great desideratum in the jurisprudence and legislation of this country.”
— Senator Howard who co-wrote the law.

It’s in the Congressional documents.

https://www.14thamendment.us/birthright_citizenship/original_intent.html

“The original intent of the 14th Amendment was clearly not to facilitate illegal aliens defying U.S. law and obtaining citizenship for their offspring, nor obtaining benefits at taxpayer expense.” — authors of article I posted.

We used to be subjects of the King until we declared our independence. (Declaration of Independence). We then became subjects of our jurisdictions.

Definition of jurisdiction
1 : the power, right, or authority to interpret and apply the law
a matter that falls within the court’s jurisdiction
2a : the authority of a sovereign power to govern or legislate
b : the power or right to exercise authority : CONTROL
3 : the limits or territory within which authority may be exercised

Article 3, Section 2, Clause 1
The judicial Power shall extend to all Cases, in Law and Equity, arising under this Constitution, the Laws of the United States, and Treaties made, or which shall be made, under their Authority;–to all Cases affecting Ambassadors, other public Ministers and Consuls;–to all Cases of admiralty and maritime Jurisdiction;–to Controversies to which the United States shall be a Party;–to Controversies between two or more States;–between a State and Citizens of another State;–between Citizens of different States;–between Citizens of the same State claiming Lands under Grants of different States, and between a State, or the Citizens thereof, and foreign States, Citizens or Subjects.

Definition of subject (Entry 1 of 3)
1 : one that is placed under authority or control: such as

As long as the US has the high standard of living it does, which is maintained through the exploitation of labor and materiel from third world nations, people will seek to come here. If you really want them to stop, you must only agree to share the wealth. They do not want to leave where they live. They just want to eat.

Not really. Simply shocking actually. The very first part of the situation is they are here illegally. Then, after that fact, they are breaking the laws. Why keep anybody here that can’t first, become legal citizens and second, can’t follow the laws? I’m so confused as to why you think they should stay here. My wife thinks you may be paid off or in trouble with a cartel. Why else would you fight for these criminals to stay a part of our community? Why?

I actually don’t have any issue with people being here illegally. In fact, if they can support themselves and not cause trouble or tax me, im all for it. If those same people start dealing drugs and stealing and driving drunk, any and all support goes out the window and I want them out of my community, where I work and pay taxes and struggling my damn self.
