These type of events are getting to be more prevalent these days. What’s going on in our “once” great County? More and more people are dying and for what?? Drugs, augments or just plain STUPIDITY!!

Rates of violent crime in CA have been going down since 1992. Our current rate in Humboldt is less than half of the state average at that time.

I grew up with his Mother, a wonderful woman, a great Mother of a wonderful son! This senseless act of violence only exacerbates hatred! People have no moral sense of right and wrong, we are being lead down a road of uncertainty, social media fuels the fire! Our Country has not been made GREAT again…I only see HATE again!

It happened in Arcata. This is about Eureka.

Still relevant.
Eureka is a good reflection of the north coast broadly, and arcata is a good gauge of young adult dynamics in the petri dish of a university town

Look again. Humboldt county has one of the highest county crime rates in the state. Adjust for racial bias and Humboldt has the highest crime rate on the west coast.

I thought we were talking about Eureka. Even Crecent City has a higher rate of violent crime than Eureka. Humboldt is pretty much right in the middle, statistically speaking, so you’re wrong about that, too.

Also, what in the fuck does “adjust for racial bias” mean? Is that your secret formula you use to pull nonsense out of thin air?

Our violent crime rate per 1000 people is 5.4. I haven’t gone through the whole list, but I see at least 20 cities with higher numbers. Where are you getting your numbers for 2018?

2nd or 7th definitely understand why all my family has been fleeing this area they called home for 60 plus years. Three words meth, heroin, and weed.

its not second or 7th. its better than most places. the meth and heroin are a nation wide result of poor values and mainly affect conservative families. the big election ticket items for the east coast are the opioid crisis and education.

And before that people who had lived here for thousands of years were killed or driven out by three words…..timber, gold and Christianity. But lets pretend that didn’t happen.

Are you talking about Kennewick Man? DNA analysis has shown he belonged to the same haploid groups as the modern inhabitents of the area where he was found. He was indeed their ancestor.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kennewick_Man

Kennewick man’s initial description as Caucasian was based on forensic phrenology. To spite being developed by racists, phrenology is not a great way of establishing race, because race is not a great predictor of a person’s actual genetic makeup. It is, as they say, a social construct. Your ancestors from 6000 BCE probably didn’t look much like you, either. We are a quickly-evolving species.

To Buster (above),
I just want to personally extend one stranger’s condolences to you and your family. My heart goes out to you. I am impressed that the owner of the Jam has spoken out about how grieved he is, as well. Our whole community will be suffering through this for a long time to come. RIP to a fine young man and much comfort to your family.
