Another drunk on the road! It never gets better. There are no consequences for drunk drivers, when will it ever be taken seriously.

There are consequences if they have a bad attorney. The government has to spend money finding the driver (article said he fled), proving he was the driver, maybe intoxicated then getting enough of a penalty he would notice. That is a very expensive process with the end likely being a negotiated minor charge anyway.

The public has a better deterrent in their ability to judge the behavior of such people but the public just won’t do in in the face of the apologists with their “you don’t know home” and “walk in his shoes” and “he’s trying to get his life turned around” attacks on those who try to hold people responsible.

Silly. The public gets to chose the standards as suits the times. Just like forcing girls to marry at 12 or hold people as slaves or bend a knee to a king is held in public scorn now. It’s not perfect but it’s better, at least for little girls, workers and citizens, than without the public scorn.

So yes. If drug addiction is a drag on society, then more power to those willing to stand against it. It did not fail because it was ineffective but because it was dismissed as a value. It’s certainly better than condoning it, thereby increasing those who are trapped by it, then arresting them for the inevitable end product.

Its hard when alcohol is the most accepted social lubricant and theres no public transpo around. Walk home from bar means potential drunk in public ticket.
I would be glad to pay taxes for a fund that supplied sober drivers to cart everyone home!

Everyone financially affected should make a claim against the driver’s and/or vehicle owner’s motor vehicle insurance policy. And for those incurring significant financial losses due to the electricity being out, consider suing in Small Claims if there’s not enough insurance to go around.

Seems like a lot of trouble, time, and expense for nothing. Because in the end you will get nothing.

Wake up! people are driving into poles all over the place.
It’s also very likely they were experiencing a “medical condition”.

Your platitudes about DUI driving don’t work here.

Good Luck squeezing PG&E or whoever you think should take responsibility for this escalating and unmanageable situation.

Why did he run off then? If it was a medical condition, no reason to run.

four hours to restore power for Arcata, when a pole was knocked down in McK, it took 17 hours. Any reason from PGE for the difference in response time?

It’s almost impossible to do that unless the motorist was drunk or high or driving too fast.
People drive way to fast for their ability around here.

I’d like to hear more about the second vehicle. To me, that’s the real story here.
