College of the Redwoods Hosting Bike Clinic and Film Screening Tomorrow

This is a press release from College of the Redwoods:

On Monday, October 15, The College of the Redwoods Book of the Year Committee, in coordination with Bike Month Humboldt and the Community Bike Kitchen, will be hosting a free bike clinic in the quad area between the Humanities and Science buildings on the CR main campus. The clinic will run from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Following the bike clinic, there will be a screening of the documentary Ovarian Psychos at 6:30 p.m. in room Humanities 129. Ovarian Psychos is about a new generation of fierce, unapologetic and feminist women of color from the East Side of Los Angeles who confront injustice, build community, and redefine identity through a raucous, irreverently named bicycle crew: The Ovarian Psychos Cycle Brigade.

This film ties to the CR Book of the Year, “The Madonnas of Echo Park” by Brando Skyhorse, because both concern Latino culture in the greater LA area. Part of the Book of the Year Committee’s goal in choosing this book was to help educate students, faculty, staff, and community members about Latino culture.

Both events are free and open to the public. For more information, call (707) 476-4370.
