Carpenters Local 751 Endorses Richard Marks

Harbor District Commissioner Richard Marks has received the endorsement of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters Local 751. This comes on the heels of Marks being endorsed by the Operating Engineers Local 3, the Humboldt and Del Norte Central Labor Council, and the Building and Construction Trades Council. Marks is running for reelection to the Humboldt Bay Harbor District Commission, Division 4, which encompasses the majority of Eureka, Myrtletown and the entirety of Samoa and Fairhaven.Commissioner Marks has a long labor history, including over 30 years as a union member and organizer. He formerly worked as a heavy equipment operator at the pulp mill. During that time he served as the President of the Local 49 union, representing his fellow workers, and as an organizer for the Association of Western Pulp and Paper Workers. Richard Marks was first elected to the Harbor Commission in 2009 and has since been involved in spearheading the District’s efforts to balance its budget, prevent an environmental catastrophe at the former Samoa Pulp Mill and repurpose the site to provide 100 good-paying jobs, and advance Humboldt County’s burgeoning trail network.
