The question is whether these procedures lead to less criminal behavior as an adult or not. I suspect they do but it would be nice is stats were kept and made available to the public.
Paul’s in Fortuna is great! Maybe Los Bagels next?
I’d like that!
this doesn’t mean kids aren’t committing as many crimes as in years past. It means, as with adults, the criteria for incarcerating juveniles has changed and they need to have committed more serious crimes before they will be held in Juvwnile Hall. Don’t let the numbers fool you. Do you know how many kids are in custody for murder, child molest? Maybe those are the questions that need to be asked. By the way the answer is a lot!
Brenneman said there are 16 kids in juvenile hall here.
I hope the downturn at the youth level can be partially attributed to the prevention efforts mentioned in the linked article and the alternative options in the community that Brenneman mentioned. I take small comfort knowing reforms have placed fewer local kids behind bars. Incarceration in more cases is not the best rehabilitation for kids.
