[UPDATE 2:04 p.m.] Fire in Carlotta Area

A fire broke out near Carlotta early this morning, according to several residents of the area. One described the fire as across the river on the ridge where logging was ongoing and said a yarder had caught fire.

Please remember that information gathered from initial reports is subject to revision as more facts become available.

UPDATE 8 a.m.: According to Cal Fire Battalion Chief Paul Savona, a report came in at 1:50 a.m. of a fire burning off Corbett Ranch Road. As of 4:30 a.m., the fire was one acre burning in Timberland. “It is contained,” Savona said.

UPDATE 8:17 a.m.: No logging equipment was burned, according to Cal Fire Battalion Chief Paul Savona.

UPDATE 2:04 p.m.: According to Cal Fire spokesperson Laura Coleman, “On the incident today is one CAL FIRE Helicopter C102; 2 Battalion Chiefs; 4 CAL FIRE Engines; 1 Fortuna Fire Water Tender.”
