Humboldt County Library Hosting Events, Activities to Recognize Library Card Sign-Up Month

This is a press release from the Humboldt County Library:

Throughout the month of September, the Humboldt County Library will be hosting a variety of activities and events to recognize Library Card Sign-Up Month.

Beginning Sept. 7, limited edition Incredibles-themed library cards will be available at libraries throughout Humboldt County. As always, your first library card is free, and replacement cards are $4.

Throughout the month of September, the Eureka Library will host a variety of drop-in superhero-themed crafts and activities in the Children’s Room. Stop in anytime to participate!

While these programs are open to all members of the community, whether or not one has a library card, signing up for a card not only lets you borrow books and audio visual materials to take home, but supports the library in ways which allow us to better serve you. Libraries have evolved from the traditional idea of just books to offer a large amount of resources to the community. In addition to print books, the library has a variety of e-books and online materials, a large number of programs aimed at everyone from children to adults, computer access and public Wi-Fi. All services and programs that the Library offers are free to patrons. Studies have found that when children have access to public libraries, it promotes early literacy, leads to better reading scores, and improves critical thinking skills. On average, for every $1 in funding that libraries receive, they provide an equivalent of $5 in services to the community.

All events are free to attend. The library’s programs and services are accessible to persons with disabilities; please let us know if you require assistance. The Humboldt County Library is located at 1313 Third St. in Eureka. For further information, call 707-269-1915 or visit our website at www.humlib.org.

I love the library and visit various branches. I depend on the library and use it frequently. I wish the cards were more durable. I wear mine out and they charge money for replacement cards.
Please make cards that last!!!

Why has no one investigated the Eureka branch terminating all its librarians but one, forcing them out on retirement? Who did this? Why? Merely to save money? They put regular, non-degreed staff at the reference desk 90% of the time. Who is responsible for this, the library board or the villains in the county HR office -?

My wife used to love to take our three kids two story hour at the Garberville Library, unfortunately the bums have infested it so bad we no longer like taking our kids there. We still check out books but skip story hour, I suppose we should just be thankful that they don’t have drag queen story hour there yet.
