Eureka Theater Presents ‘Science on Screen’, Featuring Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior, Lecturer Lonny Grafman

This is a press release from the Eureka Theater:

EUREKA, California – The Eureka Theater presents an evening of “Science on Screen”, featuring Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior (1981) and lecturer Lonny Grafman. This event will pair popular cinema with the real-science of how to survive, or maybe even prevent, an apocalypse.

Directed by George Miller, The Road Warrior continues the story of Max (Mel Gibson), a loner in a dystopian wasteland where survival relies on scavenging and killing for Earth’s scarce resources. When he stumbles upon a small community in trouble, Max agrees to help them. But he’s just there for the gasoline. The feature film will be preceded by a presentation from Lonny Grafman on sustainable technologies.

Lonny Grafman is an Instructor of Environmental Resources Engineering and Appropriate Technology at Humboldt State University, Founder and President of the Appropedia Foundation, and the Advisor for the epi-apocalyptic city art projects, Waterpod, Flock House, and WetLand. Lonny has led teams all over the world assisting communities with sustainability projects including the use of solar power to improve cookstoves, micro-hydro power, rainwater catchment, and constructing plastic bottle schoolrooms. He believes the most vital component to sustainability is community.

Event takes places at the historic Eureka Theater, 612 F St, Thursday, Sept. 20. Attendance is $5. Doors open at 7 p.m., lecture begins at 7:30, movie begins at 8:30.

All funds go to helping restore the theater to its original state in 1939.

A fantastic film. If you haven’t seen it on a big screen, you’re in for a treat.

On one hand you rail against government with absolute spitting hatred when they try to regulate pot growers. On the other hand you simultaneously rant against people who do not accept government regulation over global warming. And don’t see the conflict in wanting everyone else to be regulated to their detriment while screaming at what is much less intrusive regulation when it effects you?

Government regulation is always a two edge sword. It is better to have government involved only when absolutely necessary simply because a hundred humans working on a problem will much more likely solve a problem than one government plan. The trick is to get government balanced so that it restrains those who would harm others while still allowing enough freedom that indivduals can try various things to succeed. And to get that, some compromise has to happen where, to prevent government from doing harm by its natural tendency to tyranny, much less than perfect results are tolerated.

Thank you zigman fraud for analyzing. If you wanna know my real opinion its that government especially here today is corrupt self centered rip off scumbags who are catering to 1% of the wealthiest population and screwing everybody else as hard as they can as fast as they can.which will come with consequences i don’t ever see any of this thieving scum getting re elected but the population is going to suffer till then. And yes i think al gore was educated in global warming and i think he generally wanted to do something for the population of the 🌎 about it.

If Al Gore really wanted to do something about global warming maybe he would stop taking private jets everywhere, or maybe he would shut down one of his many mini mansions. I mean just his home in Nashville uses an average of 20 times the electricity the average household in America uses. He also just bought a 8.9 Million Dollar villa on the ocean, I guess he’s not overly concerned about sea level rise.
I mean for the sake of Jiminy Cricket, George W bush lives a Greener lifestyle than Al Gore!
