UPDATE 8:10 p.m.: Press release from the Shasta-Trinity National Forest:
The Kerlin Fire continues to grow in size near Hyampom. As of 6 p.m. September 5, 2018, the fire has grown to an estimated 2000 acres in size with zero percent containment. Presently 217 firefighters remain on the incident and aerial resources are continuing to assist firefighting efforts as flying conditions allow. Approximately 100 structures are in the overall fire area and remain threatened, however no structures have been lost. Additional fire resources have been ordered to assist fire suppression efforts.
Over the past 24 hours, there was significant active fire behavior with short crown runs and spotting throughout the fire area. Subtle cooling and an increase in moisture are expected over the next few days with winds becoming mainly light and terrain driven. Some afternoon winds gusts are expected.
Firefighters continue to work to establish perimeter control and structure defense lines where possible while maintaining firefighter and public safety. Difficult and steep terrain are hampering firefighting efforts in some areas of the fire making combined ground and aerial firefighting efforts necessary.
As of Wednesday evening, the Trinity County Sherriff office has issued mandatory evacuations for residents along county road 311 from Lake Mountain Ranch to Dead Man’s Point. Per the Trinity County Office of Emergency Services, a shelter is in the process of being established in Hayfork. Evacuees will be advised of the location once it is established.

IC reports 2,000 Acres at 1915hrs
That’s the fire on I-5, the Delta fire
My bad, you’re on it, Grumpy. Kerlin fire now 200, Delta fire is now 5000! What a tragic fire season.
Thank you.
When are the gov agentys going to realize all this country around us is going to burn. If they can pick the time and place of the battle that’s 3/4 won. BURN in the fall Go with your strength Dam dummies
10 acres last night, now 1500. maybe in a day or so Forest Service will decide to fight it. Theses guys need to get some different thinking going on. Let it burn this time of year is not working. Do some logging, and burn in early spring and late fall.
They are trying to fight it. It was just so low priority with other fires going on closer to homes that it couldn’t get resources. Theres only so many
Wildland firefighters in Nor Cal and it takes time to get them here. I dont know why every time a fire burns for more than a day people start bitching that the ” Forest Service is not fighting it”.. the only fires that are allowed to burn are in Wilderness areas to clean them up…
To many young in the spring but in the fall three days before a big storm Burn it
Do you know if the town of Hyampom is being evacuated at this time? Thanks Kym!
Karla, I have heard unofficially that the Vet’s clinic which is at 1641 E. Garrett Road in was being evacuated. But I have not confirmed that.
I have however created a map using the evacuation points given on County Road 311 from Lake Mountain Ranch to Dead Man’s Point in the press release from the Shasta Trinity National Forest. “As of Wednesday evening, the Trinity County Sherriff office has issued mandatory evacuations for residents along county road 311 from Lake Mountain Ranch to Dead Man’s Point.”
This is my best guess for mandatory evacuations.

Thank you so much Kym, you are such a strong fiber in our patchwork of communities. Blessings.
County is sending a bus to pick up people and take them to shelter in Hayfork
I have found through experience that Grumpy’s information is very accurate. It isn’t official but I trust what he says.
I’m just reporting what I hear on radio, I scan TCSO, Trinity County fire dispatch, Cal Fire and USFS.
Didn’t they put out a controlled burn there this spring.
When are peoplenty gonna learn fires are a natural part if our ecology
Suppression is not .
Burn in the spring and fall or get used to constant fire
Those poor people in hyampom first violated by the county/ sheriff’s office now this.
Violated by the sheriff?! Have you seen the numbers and sizes of the grows all just up the hill west of Hyampom?! It just might be the highest concentration of mega-grows in the entire county. No houses up there- they are commuter grows, many being run by the fine folks who house themselves in Hyampom. So please stop with the “poor people getting violated by sheriffs” routine. If we are lucky the fire will burn away from Hyampom Valley and right up the mountain taking out all those outrageous mega-grows. That said I hope all humans and animals stay safe and peoples’ homes are protected.
Ouch,,,dont say that! Ive hardly slept since i was given about 30 mins to gather all our belongings and our animals and leave my home that we have been living and working on for over 7yrs,and the cabin , i just this yr was able to move into,,waiting and praying,if my prayers are answered you wont get lucky 😉
