Aikido Classes Begin at the Mateel on September 17th

This is a press release from the Mateel:

Mateel logo featureAikido classes are back for the Fall at the Mateel with Sensei Russel Wisby. Classes are held 4pm to 5:30, with advanced students staying until 6 on Mondays and Wednesdays during the school year beginning September 17th. Class will be canceled for the Trevor Hall show on September 19th but resume the following week on Monday, September 24th. The first class is free, $10 per class after that. Come to class to sign up!

Its a fun martial art and has a lot of good things to learn but I always fear it gives people a false impression that they can defend themselves. Without real randori ( and/or a sport component) you will not be prepared to defend yourself.

Aikido’s more kinda like Yoga. Helps you attain your inner balance, that sort of thing. I don’t think moving around all gracefully and shit, the way you see people do, practicing Aikido, is gonna help you fend off some whacked-out assailant you might encounter. People say it help ’em, though, like Yoga.
