[UPDATE 7:45 p.m.: Another New Fire Start Out Hwy 162] One Structure Threatened as New Fire North of Willits Grows to 10 Acres

A new fire is burning north of Willits and south of Hwy 162. As of 7:30 p.m., Copter 101, Copter 104, and Tanker 94 are at the scene as are ground crews.

The fire is burning off of Shimmins Ridge Road. According to a Cal Fire tweet, the fire is about 10 acres and one structure is threatened.

UPDATE 7:45 p.m.: According to the CHP Traffic Incident Information Page, there is another fire out Hwy 162 called the Rios Fire.

  • There is a fire out by Hyampom too. They hit it hard right before sunset with several aircraft including a jet out of Redding so it is bigger than a breadbox.

  • The Shimmins Ridge Road fire was an ARSON FIRE.. Witness saw a single male driver in a Rust/Reddish/Burgundy 4-door SUV throw a lit gas can out of his vehicle!!!! Witness and a neighbor reported fire and stayed trying to put out the fire until Cal-Fire arrived….
