Press release from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife:

The spit fishery at the mouth of the Klamath River will be closed to angling at 11:59 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 3. Based on California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) projections of the recreational fall Chinook salmon harvest, anglers will have met the “spit area” adult fall Chinook quota of 15 percent of the total Klamath River Basin allotment by that time.

Meeting the quota triggers the closure of the spit fishery at the mouth of the Klamath River, within 100 yards of the channel through the sand spit formed at the Klamath River mouth. The spit area is downstream of the Highway 101 bridge located near the town of Klamath. Recreational fishing will remain closed to all fishing for the remainder of the 2018 season.

Anglers may keep track of the quota status of open and closed sections of the Klamath and Trinity rivers by calling the information hotline at (800) 564-6479.

That photo was absolutely not taken at the mouth of the Klamath … classic CDFW cluelessness.

Fish and take abalone all you want until the end of October. DFW is way to preoccupied with busting unpermitted grows for the Franchise Tax Board. Have fun and good fishing!

I guess if you feel the need to do that then have at it, but in case you haven’t heard this website is accessible to everyone, including the DFW.

DUH is correct…this is NOT the mouth of the Klamath…what gives??? Sorry, but ‘Life Is Good’ is way off track. The Purple Sea Urchin over -population and their resulting over- harvesting of coastal algae are a BIG problem..for the Abs (who have suffered such urchin polluted coastal waters that they have Hari-Kari’ed themselves by stomach-footing up and out of the water to die are a serious loss); and now these urchins have begun a rapacious feast on coastal algae…to the detriment of many species. The hope is that sea otters will take care of the urchin super-populations to end this problem. NO Over-fishing…. is recommended by real conservationists. Please look at the BIG picture!

So, I’m lost, the fishery is closing? What does this mean?

For me, a non fishing person, this does not mean there is no fishing allowed…It means the building located there is closing…

But I don’t think that is what they are trying to say…

Ah, I looked it up… from what I read it could mean either, or both.

Would it not be simpler to say no fishing allowed in this area after this time?

Would it be easier to say, no voting allowed at this time or voting closed?
