Klamath Trinity Joint Unified School District Postpones Start of School

This is a press release from the Klamath Trinity Joint Unified School District:

Hoopa, CA: Due to impacts caused by the Mill Creek 1 Fire, and other wildfires in the area, Klamath Trinity Joint Unified School District (KTJUSD) has made the decision to delay the start of school by one week. Originally slated to start Monday, August 27, the new start date will be Tuesday, September 4. Staff pre-service days will be August 3 0 and August 31. “For the safety of our students, staff and community, it is best that we delay the start of school by at least one week. Thank you to all the agencies involved that continue to put their lives on the line to protect ours.” Ray also indicated that he will be meeting with the Incident Commander on August 28, to reassess the fire situation and if any further delays are warranted. Currently the Mill Creek 1 Fire is 2,240 acres and 26% contained. California State Highway 96 is closed from Bull Creek to Mill Creek due to fire behavior. Traffic is being redirected through Dowd Road. The Mill Creek 1 Fire was caused by arson on Tribal lands and there is a $10,000 reward for information regarding the fire.
