[UPDATE 9:50 p.m.] New Wildfire Closed Hwy 299 Near Burnt Ranch
A new wildfire closed Hwy 299 near Burnt Ranch about mile marker 9 in Trinity County. The fire was traveling uphill, structures were threatened, and traffic was shut down in both directions about 2:09 p.m.
There is a report that there may be one way controlled traffic soon though. As of 2:50 p.m., the CHP Traffic Incident Information Page states, “FIRE SEEMS TO BE UNDER CONTROL//HOPING TO GET 1 WAY TRAFFIC CONTROL IN PLACE SOON//RD IS STILL CLOSED AT THIS TIME.”
UPDATE 3:11 p.m.: Shasta Trinity National Forest tweeted that the “forward rate of spread stopped.”
UPDATE 3:15 p.m.: According to the CHP Traffic Incident Information Page, Caltrans is being requested to show up for to flag for one-way traffic control. It is unknown at this time how long that will last.
UPDATE 3:37 p.m.: The Highway Fire is reportedly about four acres with a line around it, according to scanner traffic.
UPDATE 5:46 p.m.: 299 is open with one-way traffic control.
UPDATE 9:50 p.m.: According to Shasta Trinity National Forest’s Twitter account, the fire is now just in patrol status.
