VA Softens Stance on Medical Marijuana

In states where medical marijuana is legal,The Dept. of Veteran’s Affairs will begin next week allowing veterans to use the plant without fear of also losing access to their other prescriptions.  Under current rules, former military personnel could face the loss of pain medications if found to be using any form of illegal drug.  Because cannabis is against federal law even in areas where states have made medical marijuana legal, veterans have sometimes been denied their prescription medicine.

This is a landmark decision.  Steve Fox of the Marijuana Policy Project explains, “We now have a branch of the federal government accepting marijuana as a legal medicine.”
