Multiple departments came to the aid of a 60-year-old male hiker with a heat-related illness in Richardson Grove about 2:30 p.m., said Thomas Norris, public information officer for Southern Humboldt County Technical Rescue.

The man had become ill while walking on the Durphy Creek Trail.

Norris said his department assisted Cal Fire, Garberville Fire, and California State Park rangers in packing the ill hiker “a little over a mile on a trail in Richardson Grove.”

Fortuna Ambulance responded to the scene also. According to Norris, “[The hiker] had to be taken to the hospital.”
