18-Year-Old’s Death Caused by Hit and Run, Says CHP

CHP Feature FatalityAn autopsy conducted on the 18-year-old who was found dead beside northbound Hwy 101 south of Humboldt Hill Road on August 8 about 3:12 a.m. determined he was hit by a vehicle, according to Officer Paul Craft, the California Highway Patrol’s Public Information Officer.

18-year-old Hunter Allen of Eureka “was located lying in the roadway,” Croft stated. “Initially, there was no evidence of a collision located at the scene and the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Department assumed responsibility of the investigation.  Following an autopsy and follow up by investigators, it was determined that Mr. Allen’s injuries were consistent with having been involved in a collision with a vehicle.”

Now the California Highway Patrol has taken charge of the investigating Allen’s death. Croft said they are asking for assistance from the public.  “Anyone with information related to this investigation is asked to call the Humboldt Area CHP office at 707-822-5981 or 707-268-2000 (non-emergency dispatch line).”

Until they make a final decision on what caused his passing, no one should assume anything. The CHP investigation just started today. As a community we can only hope those who know what happened come forward. The family and friends of Hunter, including Hunter, deserve that respect.

I believe the coroner indicated vehicle collision which would suggest he was hit by a car which would suggest that whoever did this left him there. I don’t think any comment on here will make the family feel any worse than they already do. As a member of this community I would hope to gawd someone would come forward and admit to this but unfortunately this community involves a lot of people who just don’t give a crap about anyone else. Much love and respect to the family and friends of Hunter.

Please seriously if you know something or see someone you know’s car that looks like it may have hit a person recently and it was not damaged previous to this let the authorities know. This is horrible.

“northbound Hwy 101 south of Humboldt Hill Road on August 8 about 3:12 a.m”

Maybe they didn’t see him and thought the impact was a deer jumping into the freeway.

A deer? I’m sorry but I just don’t see how people can mistake deers for people. This person knew what the did, and if they didn’t they do now. I hope the guilt eats them alive for leaving him to DIE on the SIDE OF THE ROAD. Hunter had just graduated high school and had so much ahead of him. I don’t see how he could just be left for dead.

If he was indeed walking on 101 in the middle of the night… hey, I had my car break down and had to walk, I was very keen on other cars though and kept off to the side by a lot when they went by.

Which leads to question, was he hit on 101? I know his body was found there… But was he hit there or else where? Something sounds off to this, if he was walking, had all his senses, and was aware of his surroundings…

I know Hunter personally, and he was walking to a friends who lived on Humboldt Hill. No, it was not smart to walk there. But no one should EVER hit someone and then drive off. That is beyond disgusting and I hope and pray karma bites them in the ass.

The person was probably taking lessons from Carley Palsson who killed that man in redway in a hit and run, only got a slap on the wrist and a less than a year in jail. Even when just a few years before she totaled her car going 90mph on avenue of the giants.
