18-Year-Old’s Death Caused by Hit and Run, Says CHP
An autopsy conducted on the 18-year-old who was found dead beside northbound Hwy 101 south of Humboldt Hill Road on August 8 about 3:12 a.m. determined he was hit by a vehicle, according to Officer Paul Craft, the California Highway Patrol’s Public Information Officer.
18-year-old Hunter Allen of Eureka “was located lying in the roadway,” Croft stated. “Initially, there was no evidence of a collision located at the scene and the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Department assumed responsibility of the investigation. Following an autopsy and follow up by investigators, it was determined that Mr. Allen’s injuries were consistent with having been involved in a collision with a vehicle.”
Now the California Highway Patrol has taken charge of the investigating Allen’s death. Croft said they are asking for assistance from the public. “Anyone with information related to this investigation is asked to call the Humboldt Area CHP office at 707-822-5981 or 707-268-2000 (non-emergency dispatch line).”
