Press release from the Eureka Police Department:

On August 3, 2018, at about 8:08 p.m., officers of the Eureka Police Department (EPD) responded to the 3200 block of D Street for a welfare check call.

Based on the totality of the circumstances, officers ultimately forced entry into the residence. Officers located a deceased female with multiple lacerations and a male subject who also had lacerations. The male’s injuries appeared self-inflicted.

Deputies of the Humboldt County Coroner’s Office later responded and took custody of the decedents.

Based on the investigation to this point, all indications are that this was a murder/suicide incident. The Coroner’s Office has not released positive identifications or causes of death of the two decedents. Autopsies are scheduled for early this week.

The Eureka Police Department recognizes that there is a great deal of interest in this case and that the public and the media have many questions. However, we are asking for patience with this investigation. These types of cases are difficult and we are very mindful of the information that we release, not only due to legalities, but also in respecting the families of those involved.

Upon positive identification of the subjects and confirmation of the notification of next of kin, a more detailed statement will be released.

Anyone with information about this investigation is urged to contact Senior Detective Cosetti at 707-441-4315.

How do you lacerate yourself to death? I`ve heard of “falling on one`s sword”. I wonder if you could stick a double bit axe into a block of wood and dive into it and axe – suicide yourself?

One cut in a major artery in the neck, leg, arm or ??; and you will bleed out in 10-15 minutes.

The origional article said there were 3 people. Rumors all over town say there was a baby, possibly a 1yr old. Any truth to that?

The weird and the drug addicted are attracted to the “lower stress”, ie tolerating and less competitive, climate in Humboldt along with a lower cost of living. And of course, the easily accessed drugs.

Beside I doubt we have more. We just are still small enough that such things a well known yet not so numerous as in a big city.

Your town is not the only 1. Here in Lake Co you hear things that happen and you just shake your head with disbelieve.. What are these people thinking comes out a lot. Drugs make people do some off the wall stuff. They just don’t think right and after so many years of doing them it’s normal to them. So Humbolt your not alone. We in Lake Co have low cost living warm weather and places for them to hide. Our systems cater to them and they use it to get what they want. I think they move between these 2 counties I see a lot of arrests and they say from Humboldt Co as I’m sure you have them from here up there.
