Ron Swinnock

On July 25, 2018, at about 10:30 a.m., Humboldt County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the area of Elk River Road and Berta Road to conduct a welfare check on a possibly disoriented male walking on Elk River Road. Through prior contacts with the man, the reporting party was able to identify the subject as 62-year-old Ronald Swinnock of Eureka. Despite a thorough check of the area, deputies were unable to locate the subject.

On July 26, 2018, at about 7:45 a.m., a logging driver in the area of Elk River Ridge Road contacted the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Communications Center to report a seemingly disoriented man last seen walking up the logging road. The description provided of the man matched the description Swinnock.

Sheriff’s deputies and officers with the Bureau of Land Management are currently conducting a search and rescue operation in the Elk River and Headwaters area in an attempt to locate Swinnock. The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Posse is being deployed to assist in this search.

Swinnock is described as a white male adult, approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall with a thin build. Swinnock has grey hair and is described as slightly balding on top, with a grey beard. He was last seen wearing wire rim glasses, blue jeans and a black, blue and white-colored jacket.

Elk River residents are asked to report any sightings of Swinnock to the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office at (707) 445-7251.

Ronnie is my cousin and we are the same age. Ronnie grew up in Salmon Creek in the house where Kym’s mother lives and where Kym lived as a teenager. In the 70’s, they moved to the top of Elk Ridge.
Ronnie was always a little odd, but went completely off the rails while still in high school.
Heavy drug use while in high school and a few years later made his metal illness controllable.I used to visit him when he was at Semper Virens and later when he was on his own. I stopped seeing him as all he wanted when I did see him was drugs. Preferably psychedelics.
It is sad, but there is really nothing that can be done.Oh and yes, he is Kenneth and June’s son.

Yes. Sad, to be sure!
I recall when I would visit Ken and June in the 1970’s, they would say the Ronnie was ‘not really right’. As friends who were always fun to chatty with, I could see that this was a painful subject for them, and so I didn’t continue the topic. Have always wondered what became of Ronnie. Prayers that he is found safe!
PS: Are Kenny and June doing ok? This must again be painful for them. 🙁

Just hope he is found safe and sound. Drugs or not, it is sad to end up like that. I went to South Fork High also.

Thank you. I was Ron’s case manager with mental health for many years. I know he surely had his struggles in life, however he was always respectful with me. I was the one that initially seen and reported him walking down Elk River Road. I stopped and asked if he needed help. He denied he was who he was at the time and said he did not know me, even though we knew each other for over 20 years. He ask me to leave him alone and continued walking away south on Elk River Road. I went home as I didn’t have my cell and reported him to the HCSD for a welfare check. At that time I think he was staying at a care home off Ridgewood Dr in Eureka. I had not seen or worked with Ronald since my retirement in 2009. When I did see him that day I knew he needed assistance. It still is very troubling for me to have him refuse my help at that time. GOD BLESS you Ronald and Peace be with you.
