[Update Monday] Structures Threatened by New Fire Near Pecwan

A wildfire burning off Hwy 169 in the Pecwan area northeast of Orick is threatening structures, according to Cal Fire Battalion Chief Paul Savona. He said the fire began around 4:14 P.M.

As of around 5:30 p.m., the fire, known as the Johnson Fire, is around ten acres.

CAL FIRE along with other agencies are responding.

The cause is under investigation.

UPDATE Monday: The fire was contained about 3 a.m., according to Cal Fire Battalion Chief Paul Savona. “The final acreage was 16 acres, and no structures were lost”

Postings on FB stated that it was an arsonist at work. Come on guys and gals let’s have one summer free of wild land fires, smoke and loss of homes.
