Convoy of Cannabis Catchers Cruising (‘It’s a Joint Operation’)
According to Samantha Karges of the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Department, “We will be performing search warrants all week with Fish and Wildlife, some warrants are ours, and some are theirs. It’s a joint operation.”
By 7:30 a.m. the convoy had left the gathering spot and headed east.
Monday, a similar convoy headed into northern Humboldt County. A press release issued by the Humboldt County Sheriff noted a number of agencies involved including the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office Drug Enforcement Unit and wardens with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.
The agencies involved served warrants on three parcels which, according to the press release, were not “in the process of actively obtaining a commercial cannabis permit with the County of Humboldt.”
Tuesday, there was a similar operation that we just learned about. Karges said that more information on this will be released later today.

When are they getting out to the Mattole to clean up Dutyville and Panther Gap?
Complaint driven, pick up the phone and make the call. Complaining on a blog doesn’t cut the mustard.
private citizens “complained” about all the grows being raided this week?
That is the case for my neighborhood – cant confirm about “all the grows raided this week”.
Do you want the #?
“It’s a joint operation.” at least the Public Information Specialist at Humboldt County Sheriff Office has a sense of humor. Shut it down, bury the hatch, sell the land and dispose of him.
A joint operation…
Cute.
Great job informing criminals of law enforcement raids kym.
Don’t read her site then.
You obviously dont understand our sub-culture. Nor do you sound concerned with valuing our rights as citizens.
Kym rocks!!!!!
Well said.
Your right Pt Kym is doing a great job! I’m sure her reporting is making some illegal grows come to the conclusion that they need to get compliant or hit the bricks because its not worth it anymore.
That’s my job. You might even notice how the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office answers questions about the raid…Remember there are thousands of grows and no way to move them.
I love how you make cute of something inherently scary and militaristic. Meanwhile, a black man with no priors just spendd 15 months in jail for a gram and hakf of weed. Glad you think you’re a cute baby boomer whos famiky is now “legal” so you’re upstanding. Stop please.
It’s hard to know what line not to cross in humor but if all is presented here, https://kymkemp.com/2018/07/11/water-diversions-hash-lab-etc-cited-in-yesterdays-raids-at-illegal-grow-sites/, I’m not losing any sleep over the third one getting busted.
I’m not losing sleep either, I just think it’d be more respectable if you did straight forward news like when you do fires or road conditions. It’s just making fun of something maybe you don’t like or agree with.. just seems silly even though you will do what you will. Grateful for the fire and road info, but the pot stories are so sensationalized. And you don’t like the word “wook” but you make light when there are people losing their freedom over a plant. Just a thought.
I think you misunderstand the humor. I’ve lived in this community so long that the sound of a helicopter makes me buzz with fear in tune with my whole neighborhood. The telephone tree runs through my house, too. This headline is more like whistling in the wind.
At the same time, I hate the way some people trash the land. If what I’m seeing is abatement letters for some growers that have minor violations and convoys for the ones that appear to be pretty ugly, then…I appreciate law enforcement’s role.
I voted to legalize marijuana because no one should have to spend a night in jail for growing marijuana but if some growers are trashing the environment…then I am much much less sympathetic to those bad actors.
Also, could you point out where I’ve sensationalized marijuana stories? I don’t think I do but I’ll look at evidence to the contrary.
Any citizen who is living a legal life should never fear the sound of a helicopter. Why would you be living in fear?
A) I am not nor never was perfectly law abiding. I don’t know anyone who is.
B) Everyone in my community was/is affected by the war on drugs. I was a teacher in the late 1990’s when a helicopter landed on the school field. Almost all my students had parents that grew. They were scared and huddling next to me. Luckily one of our teachers went out and told the officers to get off school grounds. One time I was walking down a main road in my rural community barefoot wearing a floaty white dress (don’t ask–it was a phase I went through in the Eighties) and officer from a raid on a nearby homestead (I had been walking and missed the warning signs) stepped out and pointed a military type rifle at me. One time I was going to visit a neighbor who I didn’t know was being raided, several officers stepped out with guns while not exactly pointed at me were definitely not relaxed and easy with them. One time, a mother I knew and loved was taken away and her young daughter ran to me straight from the officer. One time a helicopter took away a loved relative who had gotten hurt running from a raid. Every time the helicopters came, someone, I cared about was worse off. I could give more specific instances, some of them funny. Some of them scary.
But no matter how many stories I told, they probably wouldn’t matter to you. From the way you phrase your question, I suspect you think that every law was meant to be obeyed no matter how grounded in ignorance and how much it was created to politically disadvantage some. ( https://www.forbes.com/sites/eriksherman/2016/03/23/nixons-drug-war-an-excuse-to-lock-up-blacks-and-protesters-continues/#76f120d342c8 ) And, I don’t. I’m not sure we can find common ground on that.
Guessing you moved here a while after the 80s then. CAMP and helicopter fear is something that is gained from living in humboldt since the early days. Regardless if your law abiding or not.
Be nice please! No one cares how long the neighbors have been here, and, some were born now, while others were born earlier. Everyone’s experience is valid, applicable, and unique.
Kym is doing a remarkable and fine job with her site! Please enjoy it responsibly, and be respectful when you are speaking to her!
If you don’t like something about RHBB, you are welcome to start your own news site! Thank you so very much for your kind consideration.
The only way to eliminate illegal grows is to legalize cannabis nationwide.
The best way to solve this problem is for everyone to give away their excess flowers, and for all pot growers to love the earth and quit trying to make a fortune by growing pot.
GROW CLEAN, GROW LIGHTLY! DON’T USE CHEMICALS OR TRASH YOUR SITE!
DON’T BUY OR DISTRIBUTE BLACK MARKET WEED!
GET THE MONEY OUT OF CANNABIS AND THE HARM WILL END.
Lmao. Really? It’s a drug. There will ALWAYS be a black market and illegal grows! Period
I love the title!

I predict another ton or two of pot mulch.
Get permitted, grow clean and legal!
How much does 50lbs of pot much sell for?
About $100.00… After it’s shredded.
Yes boss, yes boss, yes boss, yes boss…

Mass exodus of hoop houses in my neighborhood. 10 day notices went out late last week!!
Under the cover of darkness , like the good old days . Too bad the price per pound hardly justifies the Herculean effort.
Vacated today, what keeps them from reloading in 2 weeks?
Oh, how I do wish this will happen soon in my once beautiful neighborhood! Out with the vermin. How these parasites are getting away with what they are doing right alongside a well traveled county road is disheartening.
‘Whooo..’
10 day notices from who?
Hum Co Planning Dept is issuing abatement notices, after 10 days it is $10,000 per day. Over 120 this year. Remove the weed, the structures, the unpermitted buildings, and all the rest.
Lefty, are they the ones currently posted in the Times Standard?
Go get em boys !!!!!!!!!!!
A “joint operation” of group-think blend globali$t$
This is what I saw when flying to Sac from Seattle…all those patches…
Logging companies can pay the regs. Duh.
Logging companies are legal businesses.
Thank you for reporting on this Kim.
I appreciate this information, we SHOULD know and have the right to know when and where law enforcement are. This community was founded on renegades and has been reporting on convoys since the beginning… There are people who haven’t been able to navigate the permitting process for whatever reason that aren’t trashing the land. (Not to say that there aren’t grows practicing horrible land management and spraying poisons, etc). This is the return of the CAMP days or at least that mentality. Since when do you all think snitching to law enforcement is a good thing? You must’ve made all your big bucks back in the day GROWING ILLEGALLY and now are sitting comfortably with a disdain for others that have come with the hopes of making a living here too. How dare you complain about the journalistic coverage that Kim Kemp has been providing this community for years. This is one of the best sources of news in Humboldt county, and convoys are a huge part of our reality. Keep it up, this matters to so many of us.
AND:
THERE IS A CONTINUOUS PROGRAM OF AERIAL SURVEILLANCE. THE GOVERNMENT AGENCIES KNOW WHERE THE MOST EGREGIOUS OFFENDERS ARE!
IF YOU GROW DIRTY, OR ARE COMMITTED TO BEING A TOXIC DRUG DEALING ASSHOLE, YOU WILL PROBABLY BE ERADICATED.
GET A CLUE, GROW CLEAN, GROW LEGAL, DON’T COOK HASH OIL.
DON’T BUY BLACK MARKET WEED. DON’T DISTRIBUTE TOXIC MARIJUANA. BE A CREDIT TO YOUR INDUSTRY, AND HAVE SOME PRIDE IN YOUR PRODUCT AND YOUR FARM!
