A number of fires are burning across California today. Fortunately, most in Northern California are well on their way to containment. However, the exceptions to this are–from that of most concern to that of least–the County Fire, the Pawnee Fire, the Petersburg Fire and the Flat Fire.

The County Fire: It exploded June 30 in Yolo County and firefighters have been unable to get a grip on this fast-growing inferno. Today, it is at 70,000 Acres and only 5% contained. (Go here for information on evacuations and road closures.)

The Pawnee Fire: Began June 23 and at one point forced the closure of Hwy 20. The road reopened yesterday but evacuations are still in force. UPDATE 12:40 p.m.: All those evacuated allowed to return home.] Firefighters seemed to have the fire nearly closed down but on Saturday the fire burst out of its corral and ran. Today, the fire has reached 14,900 acres and is 80% contained. Thank you, Kym. I’ve been hearing from people who have friends or family living near these fires. This update will help them understand the scope of the fires in question and the possible vulnerability of their loved ones. Thank you!
