Sorry to hear of yet another fatality on our “backroads”!!! Slow down & you’ll have a MUCH better chance of seeing tomorrow!!!
Does anyone have any more details of this accident? A friend’s of a friend went missing driving an older dump truck, could that of been misconstrued as a box truck? He was driving same road last night.
J, could you email me with your friend’s name? I might be able to find out the answer. [email protected]
My husband and I drove by it a little while ago right before the tow truck showed up. It is definitely a box truck. White box, front of truck was a blue color. So sad! My condolences to the family!
Not much room for error on those roads. Sorry to learn the driver was killed. Drive safe people.
He very well could have lost his brakes.
It’s a difficult road to drive by day. Rest in Peace.
Yes that’s Lancelot Link, Secret Chimp!
Is it ok to say “chimp” could be deemed racist?
I drove past the wreak site about 1:30 pm and there were quite a few cops and a tow truck. The box van -definitely not a dump truck – was off the road on the north side west of the vets office. There is a considerable drop off there and they did not yet have the truck towed out.
At about 4:30 or 5 pm I drove back by, having been to Fortuna shopping in the meanwhile, and saw a cop SUV leaving, and the tow truck and remains of the box van were by the pumping station which is 100′ or less west of the accident site. I could only glance at the wreck as I drove by. The cab was very badly smashed up but the box itself seemed intact. Seeing the cab it was no surprise that the driver had died.
The mystery is why he went off the road where he did. The curve there is not very great, and the truck must have gone down the switchbacks which are far more dangerous. I suppose we’ll never know. R.I.P.
Hot brakes can be a huge problem coming down that hill..
One of the worst ive seen. Was sorry i looked, said somthing relating to Tree Service painted on the side…..RIP
Any idea who this poor soul was?
He was a father of 3, daughters ages 19 and 15 and a son age 11. My heart goes out to them. He is from Humbolt and had property near Harris which he sold some time ago. He was just here collecting the last of his things. He was a fisherman and diver by trade spending his seasons in Alaska and Washington. He had just told me how excited he was about change in law on the sea cucumbers and that it was going to be a good season.
This is a good reminder to us all that you never know when your time is up. Make your moments count, don’t procastinate making ammends and to truely appreciate this life and the people around you.
