Overnight, the Pawnee Fire which started yesterday evening northeast of Clearlake Oakes in Lake County jumped to 1500 acres, according to Cal Fire. “The fire burned actively throughout the night in the Spring Valley area, north east of Clearlake Oaks in Lake County. The fire is being driven by low relative humidity, erratic winds, and above normal temperatures,” they explained in their incident report.

So far, the firefighters have been unable to stop the fires spread and there is zero containment.

Fire photographer Matthew Henderson has been posting live video from the area. This one was posted at 2:32 a.m.

Check here for information on evacuation centers for people and animals as well as road closures.

UPDATE 8:36 a.m.:
The California Highway Patrol is reporting that State Route 20, the major east/west route between 101 and I-5, is closed at New Long Valley Road.

UPDATE 11:01 a.m.: Though the CHP site is still reporting that 20 is closed. No other sites are doing so and the Caltrans traffic cams show no backup.

UPDATE 12:24 p.m.: Readers are reporting that they can drive through 20.

The mandatory evacuation notice for Spring Valley is being expanded to include all areas north of Highway 20 and east of Old Long Valley Rd to Round Ball Rd, including Mule Skinner, Long Branch, Watertrough Rd, Flintlock, Muzzleloader, No Guns, Antelope, Cougar, Marianne, Ramrod, and Moccasin. When evacuating remember pets, personal computers, prescriptions, photos, paperwork and phones (mobile). If time allows, be sure to close all doors and windows. A shelter has been established at Lower Lake High School, 9430 Lake Street. This is a MANDATORY EVACUATION notice form the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

Not again! Hope CDF will be able to stop the fire before it turns into a monster. Praying for all the fire fighters and folks who live there. Be safe everyone.

Kym could you see why Cal Fire doesn’t put out maps of fires anymore. I would think that would be most helpful to persons in the area of fires.
Thank You

It takes them a while to get the data to make the maps, most resources are probably tied up in initial attack still. Once they start bringing in overhead resources and start doing IR flights the maps will come.

I suspect that your reporting about fires has saved lives. As a former firefighter I know that some of the best fire information comes from services such as yours. People communicate vital fire information to the public through your site. People are certainly grateful to you, as I’m sure that you know.

If you only save one person’s life, no matter where it is, I’m sure that that person would be forever grateful to you. I have friends and relatives that live in that area, as many of us have. I KNOW that your site has the best information that is available to them.

As an old firefighter I thank you, and your fire reporting, from the bottom of my heart.

Hey stormy, how bout you just relax and enjoy the warm weather since you seem to be anxiously waiting for news just solely about humboldt on your computer or phone?

You don’t have to be so negative. Your comment contributes nothing.

Kym, thank you for the updates and news. We live in Mendo and have my parents driving back through the 20 today. Fires in Redding too😬

Make your own blog and do it yourself Stormy. The rest of us don’t mind. Why? Because if you’re needing 20 to be open so you can avoid the Bay Area and 299 is too far the other direction, it’s quite handy for various places to report on regional conditions of quickly changing events.

Is Alameda on fire, too?
Obvi you and yours are all nice local folks. Some of us are so disadvantaged as to have loved ones who live out of your neighborhood. It’s difficult having to care about what happens the big ol’ world outside.

More than that. 7700 acres. The Pawnee Fire. http://www.fire.ca.gov/current_incidents/incidentdetails/Index/2080

Theres a 3000 acre fire by Pawnee Creek along 36 and a second, smaller fire just west of Red Bluff.
