Briceland Fire Hosts Wildland Firefighting Refresher Training
This is a press release from Briceland Fire:
Briceland Fire hosted a Wildland Firefighting refresher training (RT-130) yesterday evening.
“We had 48 firefighters show up from numerous agencies in Southern Humboldt to take the training and further prepare for this year’s fire season,” explained Damien Roomets from Briceland VFD. Cal Fire, BLM, Telegraph Ridge VFD, Redway VFD, Whale Gulch VFD, & Salmon Creek VFD all participated.
Roomets told us that the skills covered “included progressive hoselays, fire shelter deployment and hand line construction. This annual training has been an integral element in preparing our firefighters for the upcoming fire season and gives our departments the opportunity to work together on important aspects of Wildland Firefighting.”
He noted, “Because most all fire incidents in the county require a multi-agency response, trainings like tonight’s are invaluable when they give us the opportunity to work with other departments before we see them at actual incidents; it helps the gears run more smoothly, we have the opportunity to learn from each other, and we build a stronger sense of camaraderie among our various departments.”
Briceland VFD would also like to thank the Schroeder family of Briceland for providing the venue for this training as well as all the participants.
