Arcata Man Arrested After Allegedly Receiving Ketamine, Ecstasy in the Mail

This is a press release from the Humboldt County Drug Task Force:

On May 31, 2018, a Special Agent with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) alerted the Humboldt County Drug Task Force (HCDTF) of an intercepted United States Postal Service package containing illicit narcotics.  The package was bound for an address in Humboldt County and was addressed to Arcata resident, Benjamin Andrew James (age 28).

On June 20, 2018, at approximately 12:15 p.m., HCDTF Agents contacted James in front of a business located in the 600 block of F Street, Arcata.  James had just received his intended package and was taken into custody without further incident.  The package of illicit narcotics that James was intending to receive contained approximately 3 ounces of Ketamine and nearly 2 ounces of MDMA.

James was subsequently transported to the Humboldt County Correctional Facility where he was booked for possession of a controlled substance for sales.

Anyone with information related to this investigation or other narcotics related crimes are encouraged to call the Humboldt County Drug Task Force at 707-444-8095 or the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office Tip Line at 707-268-2539.

Ketamine, sold under the brand name Ketalar among others, is a medication mainly used for starting and maintaining anesthesia. It induces a trance-like state while providing pain relief, sedation, and memory loss.

(MDMA), commonly known as ecstasy (E), is a psychoactive drug used primarily as a recreational drug. The desired recreational effects include increased empathy, euphoria, and heightened sensations

Thanks for the info on ketamine. I think I was given that drug without my consent in the past. Now I can research it.

Ketamin is for horses.vet sold it for $14/gm/10 ml water, vial for injecting.horses don’t like it or watching themselves being operated on.humans like slow injestion, volitolizing it out of a broken lite bulb.it seems to relatively stop sensory input, without deminishing consciousness and disrupts learned behavior.thats hardly habit forming, unless one just doesn’t like the way things appear.nothing like pot, with its false sense of feeling good.a person may appear wide awake but not really there.

I was a combat medic. We pushed key amine for major pain over opiates because opiates drop the blood pressure

They have a few ketamine infusion places here in Colorado for pain management and depression! It’s supposed to work better than opiates, with less of a chance of becoming an addict… I didn’t know it was used in combat also… Thank you for your service 🤗💚

Don’t think it matters too much. They’re both controlled substances

Drive by and saw what looked like plain clothes cops with this shaggy dude sitting down on the sidewalk right across from CVS in Arcata earlier, thought they looked like cops, bummer man!!! Watching those border agent TV shows gives u an idea how good they are at finding drugs in parcels….

Maybe, maybe not. He used the USPS and DHS was present. He may face federal charges. If so, I’ll bet he’s looking at more than a slap on the wrist.

Depending on his salient number he could face 48 months if the Feds prosecute.

People who mail drugs are idiotic. USPS Offers a $50,000 reward for ANYONE that informs & leads to an interception/arrest. Postal workers that inform are also eligible for a payout.

But the package was addressed to a non-existent person and he only received it out of confusion. It was never opened and when they searched that address they found nothing incriminating. Right? Because that’s the only way to do that and hope your lawyer can slip you out…any other way is insanity. Or so I heard from people who maybe did it one time…

That bit about “just received his intended package” was a very odd wording. I wonder what the evidence of intent is. I remember a time when a disgruntled employee mailed package after package to his boss, including 4 truck tires once. The boss certainly got the packages but never intended to.

He probably ordered from the dark net. That’s a little more then a personal amount and the package was most likely coming from overseas if customs or department of homeland security was involved. He probably bought from a vendor that didn’t package well.

AM I responsible for what somebody mails to me? Seems pretty easy to frame somebody then. I know a young man in Redding who works for UPS when he opens suspected package finds herb he just takes it home. He gets alot.

It’s bizarre how much weed the postal service is allowing to be mailed directly out of Humboldt and Trinity. Multi-pound packages are being sent out with zero care. Kids don’t even have the decency to drive to Sac or SF just use the local p.o….It’s like nobody really cares at all anymore!

Low priority, watch where it goes, look for real bad guys in the loop and take their money and property. Big busts. It’s 2018, everybody knows ganja is easier on the mind and body than alcohol.
