In a Struggle With a Suspect, Officer Loses Radio Contact

This is a press release from the Eureka Police Department. The information has not been proven in a court of law and any individuals described should be presumed innocent until proven guilty:

Daniel LangevinOn June 12, 2018, at about 10:40 p.m., an officer with the Eureka Police Department was conducting routine patrol checks when he observed a felony warrant suspect in the driver seat of a vehicle parked at a gas station on the 100 block of West Harris Street. The warrant suspect was 28 year old Daniel Langevin.

Upon contact, Langevin exited the vehicle and fled on foot. The officer gave chase and caught up with Langevin at the 3100 block of Pine Street. As the officer attempted to take Langevin into custody, Langevin violently resisted, causing items of the officer’s equipment to detach from his person, including his portable radio.

Backup officers responded and began checking the area of the officers last known location, based on his prior radio transmissions. Within moments, backup officers located the officer still struggling with Langevin in the front yard of a residence. Officers were quickly able to overcome Langevin’s resistance and take him into custody without further incident.

Langevin was transported by ambulance to the hospital for precautionary medical clearance, prior to being booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility. Langevin was booked on charges of resisting arrest and the felony no bail probation warrant.

Shell station on California? Great place, with the Squire’s crap-partments right across the street…

Could have gone way worse for the officer.
This is exactly the reason that police officers need to be physically imposing and trained in combat arts. Can you imagine having to try to apprehend this ruffian without shooting him first?
The prison work crew/Chain gang building mike McGuire’s great redwood homeless trail may be the best solution for this misdirected young man.
We commonly hear of tips on avoiding mountain lion attacks etc..
But obviously we need to inform some young American males that it is dangerous and potentially fatal to run from the police.
Without simple, meaningful work and a beneficial culture, young males will continue to be lured into foolish rebellion instead of the broader community they come from.

Well, the well-trained officer, and backup, also a standard procedure, actually apprehended this person without shooting him. That is proper training and professional response. Kudos to the police for not going to ultimate force. They Don’t need to kill somebody to take him into custody. Job well done.

Why not assault and battery on a police officer?? It seems that recently our DA doesn’t add the more serious charges on people so they don’t have to keep them in jail or spend more time trying to prosecuting them. Criminals are getting off way too easy these days.

We are asking a lot of the police profession in dealing with uncivilized modern people. Of course the police usually don’t need to shoot to kill, but the suspect also doesn’t need to act in a way that triggers the authority figure complex.
