Man Arrested for Possession of a Shotgun

This is a press release from the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office. The information has not been proven in a court of law and any individuals described should be presumed innocent until proven guilty:

GildesgardOn June 11, 2018 at about 6:15 p.m., Humboldt County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a domestic disturbance in the area of Reasor Road in McKinleyville. While responding to Reasor Road, deputies learned that a white suburban associated with the disturbance had left the scene, the driver possibly in possession of a firearm. Soon after, deputies observed the suspect vehicle traveling southbound on Central Ave. near Pickett Road.

Deputies conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle on Central Ave. and contacted the driver, 19-year-old Kyle Gildesgard of Eureka. Gildesgard was visibly injured as a result of a prior physical altercation leading to the original disturbance call on Reasor Road. While searching Gildesgard’s vehicle, deputies discovered a short-barreled shotgun.

Gildesgard was arrested and transported to a local hospital for treatment. He was then booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility on charges of possession of a short-barreled shotgun. His bail is set at $50,000.

This case is still under investigation. Anyone with information about this case or related criminal activity is encouraged to call the Sheriff’s Office at (707) 445-7251 or the Sheriff’s Office Crime Tip line at (707) 268-2539.

An alley sprayer! You can miss further and still hit someone; get 2 with one shot if they`re standing close together.

Hopefully a little taste of the inside of the justice system will make this young man think twice about his choices!! He does not look ready for ‘the Big House’.

I don’t know anything about guns. If he is not an ex felon why is owning a sawed-off shotgun illegal?

A shotgun with a barrel shorter than 18 inches is illegal under federal law. (National firearms act, passed in 1934) The length limit is 16 inches for rifles. If you`re planning on shortening up a barrel, I strongly suggest 1/4 inch over the limit. Oh, the length is measured from the bolt face.

He comes from a family of lawbreaking losers. It’s sad that he followed their path. I’m glad his grandmother is not alive to see how he ended up.

A family of law breaking losers?? Really?? Absolutely not true. The Gildesgard family is a large family and a respected family name. Not saying we’re all perfect, but not lawbreaking losers either. You are either very uninformed, in which case you are also ignorant for spouting what you dont know for fact, or just a bold faced liar. And don’t even pretend to think you know what Kyle’s grandmother might think. I do know she would not respect you or your slanderous remarks.

Deputies (in fact?) conducted a ‘traffic’ stop.

If you cannot see the irony in having a gun ban enforced by men with guns, then you fail to understand why the second amendment was written in the first place.

Jonathan, thank you! But what is the logic behind the 1934 law banning a shortened barrel? Are they harder to shoot or to trace or?

Shot gun is about the most dangerous fire arm there is and when you shorten it becomes rather easy to conceal. Big surprise from a small package. That laws was written during a time when Bonnie and Clyde were running around killing FBI agents almost daily! Clyde had a bad boy sawed off auto loader he called a whippet gun. Carried it concealed under his armpit for fast draw!
