Eureka City Councilmember Natalie Arroyo Proposed Marriage With the Help of Her Roller Derby Team
It was the final bout of the season.
After the junior team played, Arroyo and her teammates skated out to the sound of Erasure’s Always.
While her teammates splashed out some moves on skates, Arroyo swooped around the track holding a sign backward. As she rolled past part of the crowd towards Lopiccolo, the crowd behind her could read the words and cheered. As she came close to him, she flipped the sign around so he could read it.Lopiccolo said yes!
Then he was given a helmet and skates and he joined the team on the track.
Final Score: Love all…Oh, wait that’s tennis and this is roller derby but you get the idea.
To top off the night, Arroyo’s team won the final bout by a landslide. What a night to remember and a story to tell for generations!
Note: Instead of a ring, Arroyo presented Lopiccoco with a necklace with her thumbprint in one side and the Spanish word for heart, corazón, on the other side.

Pretty cool! Im old fashioned and like when the man proposes but it was cute and im happy for them
Congratulations Natalie, I hope you two are very happy and for a very long time
That’s cool… although I would note that in this month’s “Insider” magazine there is a photo of the two (she’s on the cover) and he is identified only as “her friend”….hmmmm…..
So? And your point is?
LOL my point is he wasn’t referenced by her as “boyfriend” or “significant other” or similar. Try introducing your GF / BF in public as “my friend”… goes over like a turn in a punch bowl with the BF / GF usually. “Oh, we’re JUST friends???” You’d think Arroyo would want him captioned as “Arroyo’s boyfriend, Jason” or similar…
I would hope one would propose to someone who is a friend .
Awkward!
