RAVEN Project Holding ‘Backpack Give-Back’ Drive to Celebrate Redwood Community Action Agency/Redwood Prep Partnership

This is a press release from the Redwood Community Action Agency Youth Service Bureau:

Fortuna – June 5 – Redwood Preparatory Charter School (Redwood Prep) and Redwood Community Action Agency – Youth Service Bureau (YSB) are celebrating their partnership aimed at helping to eliminate food insecurity among Humboldt County’s runaway and homeless youth.

This concept, which will use recycled backpacks for food distribution, was brought to Redwood Prep by the Director of YSB.  The Agency’s Street Outreach program, RAVEN, will use the back packs to package non-perishable foods for youth unable to access food programs over weekends.

In response, Redwood Prep is conducting a backpack drive, “Backpack Give-back”during the entire last week of school.  Students can donate their used backpacks at school anytime through the last day of school.  YSB’s RAVEN Project will use them for youth signed up for the weekend food program.  Youth will receive a backpack with food items for the weekend and can replenish their backpack each week.

The RAVEN Project provides Street Outreach services and a Drop-in Center for youth ages 10 – 21 who are homeless or fleeing dangerous situations. On the street, youth receive basic hygiene and first aid items, nutritious snacks as well as referrals to YSB’s emergency shelter and other service providers.  At the Drop-in Center youth  receive food, do laundry, check email, and work with a Case Manager to access services throughout the county. Wow such good work!

The Raven project is one of those stellar programs that operate behind the scenes of society.
I remember when they first started out, its awesome to see them persist and hold true to their mission. Thats no easy task especially in the non-profit world and doing this kind of outreach.

Many thanks for all their incredible work!!!!

The Raven Project is a “make” work program that does NOT teach them anything other than destroy property, trespass, and use taxpayers money for no apparent reason other tHan give other loses a job. Do not fall for this request. I am a victim of “The Raven Project”.
