Castle Crags Century Reopens Mountain Metric Ride on June 23

This is a press release from Mount Shasta Rotary:

The Mountain Metric Century, the drop-dead beautiful bike ride that is routed into the Trinity-Divide with spectacular views of Mount Shasta, the Trinity Alps and Castle Crags, is being reopened this year as the feature of the Castle Crags Century.

The ride will start at Mount Shasta City Park on the morning of June 23, a Saturday. About 250 cyclists have participated in the event in the past.

This year, cyclists will have five ride options this year that span 37, 62, 70, 97 and 132 miles.

The reopening of the mountain routes, closed last year by snow, is putting the north state on the map for cyclists.

The one-day event is not a race. The Mountain Metric feature a dynamic and incredibly scenic route up South Fork Road and over Mumbo Summit, through the Trinity-Divide and then a descent past Castle Crags.Cyclists will then travel through Castella along the Sacramento River through Dunsmuir and return to Mount Shasta City Park for lunch.

All riders are offered rest stops along the route, SAG support, medical support, water bottle, lunch in the park, a post-ride meal (two meals for Full and Super Century riders), and vendors with event t-shirts, jerseys and beer. Pricing ranges $45 to $75.

In the past four years, the event has raised $75,000 for local health care and health assistance. Mount Shasta Rotary Club is planning the Castle Crags Century with the help and support of Mercy Medical Center Mt. Shasta and Mercy Foundation North.

Cyclists can register for the event at www.CastleCragsCentury.com.

For out-of-the area riders, lodging prices start at $58 per night, average in $100 range for summer weekends, with Mount Shasta Resort (rated 4.4 out of 5 on Expedia.com) at $179. Mount Shasta is a destination with world-class beauty and low prices — compared to the out-of-sight prices at Tahoe, Monterey, Yosemite, Mendocino and San Francisco.
