Man Arrested for Kidnapping and Attempting Murder
This is a press release from the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office. The information has not been proven in a court of law and any individuals described should be presumed innocent until proven guilty:
On May 23, 2018, at about 6 p.m., the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Communications Center received a 911 call from a distressed female stating she was being held against her will. The line was disconnected and dispatchers’ attempts to reconnect with the female were unsuccessful.
As dispatchers worked to determine the location of this distress call, the Emergency Communications Center received a call from a State Parks officer advising he was flagged down by a female screaming for help from a vehicle in the area of Patrick’s Point Drive in Trinidad. The vehicle fled from the officer in excess of 100 miles per hour.
Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the area to attempt to locate the vehicle. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) was called to assist. At about 7:40 p.m., officers with the CHP located and stopped the vehicle on the 400 block of 6th Ave. in Westhaven. The driver of the vehicle, 35-year-old John Luther Leslie of Eureka, was detained.
Upon further investigation, deputies learned that Leslie was in a dating relationship with the female victim and had assaulted her several days prior to this incident. In the early evening hours of May 23, Leslie forced the victim to leave their Eureka residence with him and began to drive northbound on Highway 101. Leslie made several threats towards the victim’s life and assaulted her multiple times as they traveled north. During this time, Leslie impeded the victim’s attempts to call law enforcement.
John Leslie was arrested and booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility on the following charges: kidnapping, false imprisonment, domestic violence, attempted murder, damaging a wireless device to prevent calling law enforcement for assistance, assault with a deadly weapon other than a firearm, threats to commit a crime, intimidating/threatening a witness and torture. His bail is set at $500,000 per California law.
Anyone with information about this case or related criminal activity is encouraged to call the Sheriff’s Office at (707) 445-7251 or the Sheriff’s Office Crime Tip line at (707) 268-2539.

Please protect this woman and give her strength to get through this.
Yes and give thanks she had the strength to attempt the 911 call and to shout out the window towards the State Parks officer!
Banana crank
Maybe the court system will sit up and take notice post-Ronald Crossland, and start putting these offenders where they belong – prison. For a long time. Like, a really, really long time.
But probably not. “Hey bud, how ’bout some more probation? Now don’t you go murdering anyone, y’hear?”
.this man needs to receive a bail of $0000000000..i personally know someone who is in custody for way less and has a bail amount 3x that amount…Fucking Humboldt county….and they way they pick and choose who gets shafted and who walks..talk about some bullshit..
That isn’t Humboldt County, it is California Law as the press release stated. You can’t continue to place all the blame for our messed up justice system on the counties. Our state legislature sold out the counties making them responsible for inmates that should be in prison so the Governor could say he balanced the budget. The poeple of California continued to be asleep and allowed measures to pass to reduce time served, and bail amounts for crimes. It is the people of California that allow criminals to exsist in this state and not be responsible for their actions. We cottle and make excuses for their actions, reduce the severity of their crimes, and allow them to continue their criminal actions while being “supervised” by an invisable system. If you are tired of being a victim then it is time to bring back responsibility, respect, morales, and honesty in politics.

Damn…he looks like a fetal alcohol child and I hope he is investigated for priors. How long was she dating him he could be another serial killer. Seems like quite a few of them have been getting caught lately.
It’s Hanover Fiste
Yeah, except for the insanity-by-way-of-ancient-evil-orb excuse. Hanover was possessed!
Shaka you are priceless. You made my day. Have any of you every seen that special, I believe was on the Science channel, that showed one of their prison and how the inmates were treated? Boy I bet when they were released they sure were going to leave the country to commit any crime after that. I would really like to see that again. It was mind blowing. Did you see that Guest?
Hanover Fiste, excellent 80’s reference to one of my favorite movies.
The first Heavy Metal was best.
Why didn’t they tack-on evading arrest by driving a hundred miles an hour? He’ll plead down to damaging an iPhone and threats to commit a crime and get 3yrs probation
great profile
Wow he’s only 35.. I would have guessed 50
That’s an insult to 50 year olds!
Bring back capital punishment. And expand offenses that earn it. Let’s start cleaning up our mess!
If he’s a drug addict, would you still encourage the death penalty?
What’s that got to do with anything?
Without a question people in Humboldt continue to get worse the drugs haven’t done anything good capital punishment should come back drugs or not hold them accountable for there actions and stop making the tax payers pay for them
“female screaming for help,” probably saved her life.
I am the victim of this case and let me tell you something the HCSO are liars there press release is false not accurate at all and they threw in a couple of their own ideas to make a great story and until you live through what I’ve lived through or what he is going through you have no idea so keep your comments to yourself
So what really happened?
