This is a press release from the County of Humboldt:

The County of Humboldt is pursuing the funding necessary to construct the final four miles of the Humboldt Bay Trail between Eureka and Arcata. Please complete our survey to help the county understand current non-motorized travel patterns between Eureka and Arcata and how a completed Humboldt Bay Trail would impact you and your family. The results from this survey will be used to describe the expected benefits from the completed trail in funding applications. For more information, visit the Humboldt Bay Trail website.

Will the naked walker from the other day be consulted?

This cracks me up. People are always accusing other people of destroying the natural habitat by making footpaths, yet these same heavily used paths can’t be detected without spending potentially millions in dollars on surveys?

Horses! They might leave a little fertilizer here and there but the tourists would go nuts over seeing equestrians riding by the Bay. Word of mouth might be worth a few piles of horse apples now and then. Never underestimate the power of the horse to magnify the quaint “old west logging County” that we’re aiming to pitch to tourism.

I agree. Horses are a valuable part of the Humboldt experience.

Does anyone in the area offer beach rides for tourists? Should be a niche for that.

I would like to see them finish and maintain the bike lane on Myrtle Ave/Old Arcata Road! Way too much bikes, bike tours, walkers/joggers/ dog walkers on this to not do so! Even in the rain there are walkers and riders that use this to get to and from their place of employment and they need the safe lane that was promised long ago before any new trails for tourist/pleasure go up! A few cross walks and traffic signs too!

I guess converting the rail line to a bike and walking path as is done in many many many other states and countries, and brings in many many many money spending visitors is just too too too obvious.
The problem here is the Good Old Boy/Landowner network that controls things.
But I wouldn’t understand.
