Margit Prichard

On 5/18/2018 around 7:20 PM the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office received a call from the 1300 Block of Pepperwood Springs Road in Piercy CA related to a missing adult female. Deputies responded and learned the missing person (MP) was a 76 year old female by the name of Margit Prichard. According to family, Margit has been experiencing dementia related issues. Margit is very fit and can walk long distances with ease, having recently disappeared from her home (3 months prior) and traveling 7 miles on foot.

Margit was last seen at her residence around 1 PM the afternoon of 5/18/2018. Around 4:30 PM her husband discovered her missing and conducted his own search of their property, nearby neighbors and local roads before calling MCSO for assistance. Margit was last seen wearing blue capris style pants and a purple T-shirt. She did not take her phone or purse with her when she left.

Mendocino County Sheriff’s deputies searched the area Friday night with a blood hound. The Mendocino County Search and Rescue (SAR) Team responded on Saturday to search the area in the daylight but Margit was not located. The Search has continued on Sunday and again on Monday with 70 searchers responding on Sunday. The following agencies have assisted in this search.

Humboldt Sheriff’s Office, Humboldt County SAR, California Highway Patrol (Patrol and Helicopter), Cal Fire, Piercy Fire, Leggett Valley Fire, Marin County SAR, California Explorer Search and Rescue, Lake County SAR, Napa County SAR, San Mateo County SAR, Bay Area Mountain Rescue Unit, California State Parks, Sonoma County SAR, California Rescue Dog Association, California National Guard, California Office of Emergency Services Law Division and Southern Humboldt Technical Rescue Unit.

The Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office wants to ask the cooperation of and assure local residents, in the Piercy Area that all efforts in that area are being conducted by Search and Rescue personnel and are in no way associated with marijuana eradication.

The Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office learned Margit may try to go to the East Bay Area where she used to live, specifically Bethel Island.

A Silver Alert has been issued in the north state. If you have seen Margit or might have information as to her location please contact the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center at 707-463-4086.

Right! Back when I was an alcoholic I once asked myself WTF am I doing? Some people would give anything for mental clarity and there I was throwing mine away. My heart goes out to all those with lack of mental clarity.

Thanks to everyone who is showing such concern for my sister-in-law! Our family also wants all of you to know how much we appreciate the exhausting help of the search and rescue teams. They are amazing – traversing that difficult terrain, floating ten miles down the river, each and every one of them holding a positive attitude.

Please note that while Margit last lived on Bethel Island, she also lived in Berkeley for many years so that could also be her goal.

Special thanks to the Kym Kemp and The Redheaded Blackbelt for the regular coverage. It’s helping so much!

Do you have any people in Bethel Island who know to look out for her?
Brentwood is right up the road a couple miles. I wonder if their police might be any help to you. They’re bound to be less busy than the CoCo Sheriffs.

This is a fairly current photo from her driver’s license. Unfortunately, Margit absolutely hated having her picture taken so we don’t have any others to provide.
