Washouts Close Two Forest Service Roads in the Haypress and Stanshaw Areas

Press release from Six Rivers National Forest:

Travelers in the Haypress and Stanshaw areas of the Ukonom Ranger District are advised of closures on Forest Service Roads (FSR) 15N17 and 13N11 due to washouts. The closures are located in the northeast corner of T13N R6E Section 36, at milepost 7.7 on FSR 15N17, and milepost 2.7 on FSR 13N11. Although the Ukonom District is on the Klamath National Forest, it is administered by the Six Rivers National Forest.

The Haypress and Stanshaw trails, as well as Let’er Buck and Ten Bear trails, are popular with equestrians heading up into the high country of the Marble Mountain Wilderness. For now, detours to these trailheads include:

• Haypress or Let’er Buck trailheads: use FSR 15N17 (Camp Three Road off the Salmon River Road).

• Ten Bear or Stanshaw trailheads: use FSR 13N11/14N01/15N17 from the Ti Bar side.

“These roads are expected to remain closed for the foreseeable future,” said the forest’s civil engineer Victor Dumlao. He added, “We still need to assess the damage, as well as come up with a plan for when and how we will make the needed repairs.”
