[UPDATE 7:23 p.m.] Medical Rescue at Freshwater Lagoon
At approximately 4:45 p.m., a dispatcher reported over the scanner that a rescue was needed for a person in the water north of the Freshwater Lagoon which is near Orick.
Later, the dispatcher said that the Coast Guard was on scene and so was a State Park ranger. Copter 102 was on order, the dispatcher said. The dispatcher called the incident a “medical rescue.”
The Coast Guard was unable to respond to questions at this time.

UPDATE 7:23 p.m.: According to the Sheriff’s Department spokesperson, Samantha Karges, when searchers got to the scene, they determined that the sighting was actually of a crab pot. No person was sighted.
